Heartdogs - Is yours a doodle?

A "Heartdog" is that one dog that lives in your heart forever.  It can be any breed, any time in your life, but everyone knows who that dog is.  I know who many "heartdogs" are for many of my friends and acquaintances, but if you have had (or currently have) a "heartdog" you know it!  So, my question is:  Is your "heartdog" a doodle?  They are definitely special dogs and my first doodle was my heartdog.  No other dog will live up to him, even though they may try.  He was something special to be sure.  Here is a photo of Hondo tide pooling at Carmel Beach.  He died on 09-18-10.

I'm sure it surprises no one that Penny was and will always be my heartdog.  I grew up on a horse farm and have always had dogs, and Penny was one in a million.  She helped my husband through his first round of prostate cancer, and came as close to "reading my mind" as any animal could.  Everyone who met her was entranced by her, and I never lost the feeling of wonderment that living with her every day brought with it.  Aren't we the lucky ones, to have these pups in our lives?

Michele, being newer than some, I didn't know Penny the Wonderdog. But in looking at one of your videos, I had the thought "an angel by my side."

Monty was my first dog and I feel a strong connection with him. He's got a funny personality, he is such a silly and stubborn doodle. It does not hurt that he is doggone cute and knows how to use it. I feel incomplete when he is not with me and I know he feels the same way. I just love all the little things he does: getting on our bed after my DH leaves for for and sleeping belly up with me, "holding" my hand while I drive (not anymore since I upgraded and now he sits in the back seat), dropping a ball down the stairs and asking me to throw it back to him, hiding his head between my legs to escape the teeth of Auggie, etc.  I smile and cry at the same time when I think of Monty. I don't know if I'll ever feel the same about Auggie, he is still just a little bugger, but I know that there will only be one Monty. My darling Montgomery Tiberius.
