Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Today, while hubby was napping and I had left for work..Chloe went in the kitchen and "counter surfed" (her first offense with this)and ate about a half of container of Hummus Dip, and a 1/2 bag of Pita chips...
I am so worried that this will make her sick. There is a lot of garlic in Hummus typically, and I know thats bad for dogs! Plus she is on a grain free diet, and now eating all those pita chips..OMD. For now we are just keeping a close eye on her..

She should be fine overall--I doubt it will injure her, but could have diarrhea or gas or both I'd guess.
yes.. considering Hummus is beans LOL, I am sure she will have gas. I am just worried she will get ill..
I would expect some loose stool, otherwise she should be OK. I have found that pure pumpkin from a can can bind them up a bit and may help if you have some. Just a tablespoon or so.
Thanks, I do give them pumpkin as needed, so I will make sure and get some ready!
How much fat is in the hummus and the chips, if any? That would be the main concern. If there wasn't much fat involved in what she ate, she will probably have an upset stomach, but it won't be life-threatening, lol. You may have a big mess to clean up, though.
The danger from garlic (and all plants in the onion family) occurs over time. It's not like something which is immediately toxic, like dark chocolate.
I think keeping a close eye on her is best for now. Don't encourage her to eat anything if she doesn't seem to want to eat, or if she vomits. Hopefully, she'll be fine.
Other than some nasty doodle breath she should be fine. Quincy once ate an entire large plate of homemade pasta and sauce and not even a loose poop.
Uh oH!! WAS THAT PRETTY WHITE FACE RED QUINCY????
I don't think there's enough garlic to be a serious concern in most hummus. She may feel a little yucky, and as everyone else has said there may be some loose stools, but other than that I really think she'll be okay.
I'm sure she'll be fine. I think there could be a whole forum on the amazing things our dogs have eaten over the years.
Jax's favorite thing to steal is hummus! He has a VERY sensitive stomach and it has never caused him any problems. I always have to make sure to not leave it on the coffee table where he can reach it.
I hope she's still feeling ok. That's quite a snack. No doodlekisses from her!!
Update..good news! We didnt seem to notice any problems with her..not sure why, but she seems fine.
We do have 3 dogs, so we think she might have had a little help from 1 of them, my black lab..she is the one who seemed like she had a tummy ache if you ask me, hahaha.
Just glad it didnt cause too much trouble!
