Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello, I just got our family a new beautiful doodle. We knew it was not ideal timing because we had a 10 day vacation planned for Hawaii. We had it all set up for our little Kizmet to stay with my sister. We are in Hawaii now and just got here today. Unfortunately we had a sudden death in my family. Now all my sisters and mom are leaving town. My puppy is not fully immunized as she is ony 10 months. She is not fully potty trained. I don't know what to do. All of my friends have full time jobs and can not care for a puppy that requires so much. Is there a magical option anyone knows of? We are stuck.

Thanks!
Holly

Call your vet.  Ask if there is boarding they can offer until you return.  Call the breeder. They may also be able to  help.

Have you joined your local group here on DK?  The Washington Group may have some ideas for your also.

I think you did mean 10 weeks based on your other posts in which case Joanne has great advice...call your breeder for sure.  Depending on how long you will need someone to care for her there may be other people in your area with a pup from the same litter that could also help out.  Good luck, I imagine this is a stressful situation.  Also, if your breeder has a FB page that might be worth trying too.

I am confused. I even deleted my first response, after I re-read the post.

I'm confused.  Is the puppy 10 weeks or 10 months?

If she is ten weeks call the breeder.  Back home with the breeder and the mom is the very best place right now!! She will be with people who know how to care for her and she will be in familiar surroundings.

Do you have any friends that could come watch the puppy? I had a college student come stay with Ollie at 10 weeks for 2 days...it worked really well.

That's a good one, Rachel.  Someone to just come to the house and watch the puppy.  A neighbor, a friend?

She will be a little confused, but going to the breeder for a while will help her as its not another new place. Expect the breeder to charge a small fee, but if she is a good breeder she will let your pup stay. There are also professional pet sitters, but they can cost a lot of money, and you havent had time to check them out.

This seems the best possible option. I hope it works out. Maybe she could stay with the breeder while your sister is there and then your sis can bring her back home after the funeral.

I'm sorry you are facing this very confusing situation just as you have arrived in Hawaii for a vacation. I hope it is settled today and that you can relax soon!

Holly, I don't live far from Carnation. Did you find some help? I have two doodles, fenced in yard and a dog crate. I may be able to help. Send me a private message, if I can help you in any way.

What a kind offer.

I agree.....we have some very special people here on DK.  How nice of you, Julie.
