Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
We are the proud owners of a 13 wo F1 Goldendoodle - Maddie Marie. We lost our mixed shepherd of 16 years just a few months ago. None of us every reacted to her or my parents peekapoo who is at our house all of the time.
We got Maddie on Saturday and she is doing great, we are head over heals smitten - except that both my husband and I are sneezing a lot and our eyes are itchy/burning. We both have mild seasonal allergies but never an issue with animals. My son is also stuffy but I would like to chalk that up getting over a cold, he is going a lot of sniffling.
I am so upset: ( Is there anything that we can do to reduce these issues? I gave her a bath the second night she was with us thinking maybe it was dander from all of the other dogs she might have been around. I wash my hands quite a bit and tend to vacuum a lot anyway. Any thoughts? We are so taken back, it truly never occurred to us that allergies might be an issue. Our other dog shed like a maniac!
Any info/input would be greatly appreciated!

Here in the midwest, ragweed pollen is in the air August- October.
The pollen levels are pretty high in your part of the country for this time of year, but it's tree pollen, not ragweed:
I heard honeybees working our maple trees today so we are in the pollen season here already too! :(
Yes, but different plants pollinate in different seasons. Tree pollen is usually prevalent in the Spring, weed pollen in the summer and fall.
True. Grass after trees, there's always something once growing season starts.
How could I forget grass? Yep, always something blooming and bringing misery to someone, lol.
If your son is getting over a cold, is it possible you all caught that from him? I find it hard to believe it could be from your goldendoodle, but I'm no expert! Hang in there. I bet it will get better.
Hi Everyone,
Thank you all so much for taking the time to respond. We've had Maddie for a week and 2 days and she is already a part of the family. I have come to the conclusion that what I am siffering from is in fact seasonal allergies. I live in Mass and the weather has been unseasonably warm s it seems that allergies are already in the air: ) That paired with the fact that I have been outside with her a ton leads me to believe that it is my mild seasonal allergies kicking in a bit early. I plan to follow many of the great suggestions in this post: )
Whew, thank you for helping me through that mini nervous breakdown!
Maddie is such a cutie--I'm glad that you are feeling better about the issue, and so glad that she is already part of the family. I look forward to seeing more pictures of her as she grows.
This is great news Kim. Well, not great that you have allergies or had a mini breakdown but great that your symptoms are not being caused by Maddie! Sometimes when there are so many changes in a household all at the same time it is difficult to sort through it all! Enjoy your new baby! (Just make sure she is wiped down first! LOL)
