Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I'm considering this pup and wondering if you have any insight.  We recently tried to rescue a goldendoodle only to figure out that the individual "rescuing" the pups was really running a scam selling maltipoos as goldendoodle puppies.  So, as you can imagine I'm nervous and the seller of this pup isn't really helping.

Here are some pictures.  The seller says she's 8 weeks old and that her sister is the breeder.  She included pics that she says are the parents - a 45 lbs golden mother and a 14 lb poodle father.

That's a good qustion.  I grew up with mini poodles and love them.  My better half grew up with a german shepherd and would like nothing better than that.  There's a chance that my mother could end up living with us at some point or staying for extended periods and she is allergic to dog dander.  My DH doesn't want a poodle and I'm looking for a compromise with him.  We've liked portuguese water dogs as well but I think they are too hard to come by and too expensive.  As far as characteristics we're looking for an intelligent dog that will hopefuly love doing all the things we do - running around, going to the beach, swimming in the pool, lazing on the couch and playing fetch in the yard.  Personality is huge on the list but super hyper active is what we worry about and would like to avoid.

I'll just say, no matter what type of dog you get or where it comes from, get pet insurance it can avoid many heartaches down the road.

Is it recommended for all pets these days?  I know my family doesn't have insurance but they do warn about vet costs.

Pet insurance is for the what-if's/the emergency issues - not for the yearly physicals and vaccines. Tearing an ACL could cost $3000++ for 1 leg and the chances the other will need surgery is greater due to the extra stress it gets while the 1st one recuperates.

I don't know if anyone else notices but to me that puppy picture looks nothing like any nursing on the Mom.

I kind of wondered about the picture of the mother and pups.  I think this woman is a scammer.  Possibly even part of the same scam that got us last time.  I appreciate everyone helping me to see that.

I agree, it could be the lighter pup nursing but I doubt it. those pups on the mom look bigger than this pup was probably at that age.

i agree, theres little chance that pup being as shaggy as it is, has gone from almost flat coated (in the pic with the golden) to that in 8 weeks

have you looked at the shelters in your area?  I always see tons of poodle mixes in shelters on Petfinder.

Everyday for baby and young dogs under poodle.  I've applied to rescues but not had any responses yet.

Also, if allergies are an issue and you are looking at mixed breeds, you would be much better off with an adult dog than a puppy. Puppies' coats change as they mature, and there is no way to know what a mixed breed puppy's coat might turn out like, or whether it will shed or affect someone's allergies. With an adult dog, what you see is what you get.

a big part of finding the perfect dog to adopt is having patience.  I used to look online every day during my lunch hour and then one day Ollie was listed on DRC and the rest is history.  The perfect dog for you will come into your life at the perfect time.

most people dont like poodles because of the way they are shaved/cut.....
