Phoebe seems to have lost her good little puppy mind today. For no reason at all she has become insane. She has growled at me more than once, barked at me, jumped on my couch, tore pillows from the couch (as I watched), dragged my foyer rug through the kitchen (while I followed trying desperately to come up with a way to get it without 1. making a big deal of it or 2. handing her a treat in exchange for it making that a fine way to get another tidbit from me daily), pulled on her leash like never before and tried to turn her leash into a tug toy. I am wiped out and stressed out. She has had plenty of exercise today as always plus, I have been working on training with her as tonight is her puppy k graduation. I am at my wit's end. Right now, she is having another time out in her ex-pen where she has spent quite some time today and I feel awful about that. I am hoping it is just a 'bad puppy day'. She is only 13.5 weeks old so I thought I had some time before the crazy teen years...is this the terrible two's perhaps? Yikes!!!
Unfortunately, it all sounds like normal puppy behavior. The only thing I question, was the growling during play? I promise all your hard work will pay off. Those puppy days are challenging. Hang in there!!!!
My guess is she's doing all this BECAUSE tonight is puppy graduation night. My pups seemed to be their WORST whenever I: a. wanted them to be good and show off their stuff, or b. whenever I got too cocky about how brilliant they were. Not meaning that you are doing b., just that's how my dogs kept me from getting a big head!
I remember those days-mine is 28 weeks old and still has them once in awhile. Sorry-no advice except to continue with the training and keep her active. Our trainer says it is normal puppy behaviour. I call it obnoxious puppy behaviour!!!
Agree, it sounds like normal puppy behavior. Gunner had me ready to pull my hair out sometimes the first 3 months I had him. They have days that you say "what is wrong with you today" & tomorrow is complete opposite. My sister's doodle is the same way. Some days no matter how much excercise Gunner got, he still acted crazy. Each week has gotten better & better. Hang in there.
So happy I am not the only one with a naughty doodle some days. I have to admit this was her first out of control day since we got her almost 6 weeks ago. That said, she pulled off a stellar performance for puppy k graduation tonight. She actually won two categories...down/stay and the trick (we taught her to crawl). Hopefully, she will wake up and be her old self tomorrow...at least until the next crazy doodle day!
Max is the same way. There was a time when I would almost get scared when he had a great day because I knew the next day would be another situation and me possibly in tears. I'll also admit that just when you've had enough and don't think you can take anymore, Max would hit some milestone like using the Poochie Bells to go potty or finishing all his food (he is a picky eater).
