How can I even write this..butt here goes!  (I know my sister is laughing as she reads this in another city!)

Ginger has been straining to go to the bathroom....she walks and pushes and pushes and walks.  To make matters worse, what does come out is pasty and sticks in her hair.  She comes in and does  the bum drag.  I quickly caught her and filled the sink with water and "rinsed" her two times now.  She wiggles like a pig.  When I go and dry her, I see her bum is red and swollen.  I called Petsmart and they are "overbooked" for the day!!!  My dog stinks, my house stinks.  We are also changing foods.. and she ate a paper towel when DH took her for a walk yesterday.  I don't want to wait until tomorrow.  Any suggestions?     HELP

Pam, that really stinks (sorry, couldn't help it).  It is incredible the wealth of knowledge there is on the internet!  I am not quite certain I would be up for this, but desperate times call for desperate measures!

You can "google" the topic "expressing anal glands" and find all kinds of how - to's!!!!!

Let us know how it goes!

Definitely sounds like anal glands that need expressing.  The vet technician expresses the glands from the inside, which is preferable to the way the groomer does it (from the outside).   Cocoa had this problem when she was younger and seemed to outgrow it by the time she was about a year old.  Until then, we had to have the vet express her glands about every two months.  Poor Ginger!  Poor You!  We've done many "bum washes" at our house...
Yes, I am laughing....
