I need to seriously work on recall training for my soon to be teenage puppy and I've used the word "come" way too casually for this word to work as my recall command.  I can't whistle, so that can't be part of the command either.   I will appreciate any  ideas DK members might have for a good recall command.  Thanks so much!

My I really mean business recall word is Here.

If you feel it is really to late to use that one (might try using come with clicker training to reset the importance of it), then how about finding some words that you like and going to an online interpreter to find some other language.  I once knew a Wiemeriner that knew English very well but took all his commands in German.  People were quite impressed.  Then there was the kittens in Mexico that didn't understand kitty, kitty, kitty and only responded to gato, gato, gato!  But I digress...resetting with the clicker is the best idea I could come up with.

This is my recall story. Worked really well for me. http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/trainingmindsets/forum/topics/rec...

I've been using "pronto" which means come immediately.  I use very high value treats whenever I use this word and I'm always in a position where they can't "blow me off"....I can go and get them or reel them in on the long line.

i just say TREAT or GREENIE and they come running!  i don't know if its bad to say treat for a recall but it works better than "come"

Treat works well for me too!
Bella's come recall is next to perfect, but she came at 10 weeks to me like that. I just reinforce with treats every once in awhile to keep it going strong and reliable. As for Murphy, I have to get firm and give him "the look" and say Murphy Come NOW! And then he slowly meanders over to me. Always has, no matter what treat or reward I have used. He eventually comes, but it is never reliable and if he is the least bit distracted, forget it, he's not coming at all.
My advise, never call him where you can't make him come or get to him quickly to show him what you mean. I had done this with Murphy and got the best results at first, but DH is one of those "come, come, come here, come here now, come on Murphy" kind of callers and he just doesn't listen much to his calling him at all. So my training has become diluted.

My recall command is also Here.

Thanks, everyone.  I think I'll try the spanish phrase "andale pronto" ("hussle/move it") that comes quickly into my mind since I used it often as a child when attempting to get burros to move with some haste in the direction I wanted them to move.  And I'll make sure to use extra special, high value treats in the training.  Wish me luck!

If you want something shorter, you could try "ven aca" (accent on the second syllable, but I can't figure out how to do an accent in this text box) (meaning "come right here").

Also, I think, because you're ending on an accented syllable, it will sound more urgent.

Just a thought. Best of luck with this. I need to work on this with Cosmo, too!

Thanks Elizabeth--I may try this. (I couldn't do the accents either!)
