HGE??(Hemorrhagic Gastro-enteritis)

I am so upset right now, I can barely see the screen through my tears. My beautiful Jaxon has been having diarrhea for a couple of days, and then started vomiting last night. I decided to take him in to the vet, and am so glad I did. There was a lot of blood in his stool/rectum and the vet has kept him in to give him IV fluids, antibiotics and anti-nausea meds.  I just feel so sad, helpless, and hoping and praying he is going to be ok.  The vet said it was probably something he ate and called it "hemorrhagic gastro-enteritis", but wants to treat it aggressively.  Has anyone had any experiences with this. Of course I had to "google" it, and have scared myself half to death with all the "could-be's".  After calling my hubby my first thought was to come on DK and get some support. Thanks ahead of time. My other 2 doods are feeling my sadness too....

I am so sorry that you all are going through this!

I never heard of it either so I also googled. It seems that your Mommy instincts were right, got him to the vet early and your vet is treating him aggressively. Sounds like your vet knows his stuff!! 

What I find very interesting in the few sites I looks at is they usually see this in small dogs. The scary thing is that they haven't figured out what causes it.

I know exactly how you're feeling right now.  My Guinness is now being treated for Pancreatitis which has very similar symptoms.  My advice is to stop "Googling" and just listen to your Vet.  The Internet will scare you to death.  I hope that things improve for Jaxon very quickly.

I had not heard of this so I went and read up on it. It seems when it is caught early the outcome is usually good. Sending good thoughts that Jaxon is well and back home soon.
