Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello All,

So happy to find this group, I am enjoying reading about all the Doodle Joy! We recently lost our beloved schnoodle Max, to cancer. While we love the schnoodle breed we are opting to go with a doodle to avoid comparing new pup to Max. We definitely want a medium to standard sized doodle but haven't decided between goldendoodle, labradoodle or possibly Aussiedoodle. In the end I think it will come down to finding the most reputable breeder. And that is where I need the most help. I research online, think I've found someone reputable and then I discover a bunch of negative posts. I researched a breeder recommended on Goldendoodles.com and found many claims of receiving sick pups...I feel like I'm spinning my wheels. We are searching within a 5 hour radius of Atlanta. I know suggestions are not allowed on the board but I welcome breeder suggestions via PM.

Thanks!

Awe. Sorry for your loss.
I have a miniature schnoodle, Barkley. I have pics of him in my photos if you want to take a look. We now have a full size Labradoodle as well - well she will be full size as she is just now 4 months and close to 40 lbs.

Just wondering why you wouldn't want another Schnoodle?

We wanted a bigger dog and hubby had met a labradoodle, so we looked into them and that's how we ended up with Gracie. :)

Welcome!

We want a bigger dog this time so if we do go schnoodle we will go for a bigger one. We just feel like it may remind us too much of Max and that our expectations will be for him to be just like Max was. Also, I don't know if this was specific to our dog, but he had a pretty strong body odor, almost a skunky scent! Everytime he came in from outside he just stunk up the whole house and he was only 20 lbs! We had a 90 lb Old English before and never had that issue.

The breeder we used was great but her prices are waaaay higher now. We paid $800 for Max which my husband thought was insane and wouldn't even tell anyone. If they asked he'd just roll his eyes!

Barkley also secretes pheromones. Interesting. He doesn't it all of the time though. My BIL who is a dog trainer in the Air Force says it's his way of marking his territory. It's pretty gross.

Anyway, we decided on a girl his time around because I didn't know if that is just what boys do. Lol. Plus the whole pee on all my flowers! ;)

We love Gracie though she's been quite the handful so far. Lol

Hmmm, so Max didn't always smell skunky but he always smelled when coming in from outside. I guess the skunky times were pheramones. He was fixed young though and he never lifted his leg.

Barkley was fixed around 6 months right before we got him from the rescue place. So, yeah, that's probably why he lifts his leg.

Btw, my MIL has a female dog who will lift her leg. She learned to do it from her brother. They had gotten her when she was just a puppy and had her spayed early. They got her brother when he was over a year old. Funny stuff!

You could start by looking at the GANA (GoldenDoodle Association of North American).  All of their registered  breeders have to follow very strict guidelines.  The are listed by state.  Once you narrow it down you can come back here and ask about specific breeders and people can respond to you privately.
