Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everyone! My name is Shannon and my family and I are picking up our chocolate labradoodle Fleury on Sunday :) The household conists of myself, my husband, our 5 year old son and 3 cats. Oh and the goldfish lol. We haven't had a dog in the house for a few years so we're a little anxious, for us as well as the kitties! I've been doing lots of reading over the last few weeks and am looking forward to the knowledge of all you great doodle owners!

Hi Shannon--I haven't been here long, either, but this site is loaded with information--and the people are so helpful. I'm sure you're getting a bunch of Welcome's right now.

A word about the kitties: don't worry too much. I got my doodle in February, and we have four cats. I thought that would be the hardest part and that if everyone was settled in within six months, I'd be happy. By the end of day 2, everyone was sleeping in the same room. The cats have more potential to hurt the dog at the puppy stage than vice-versa, but I had good luck just letting them work out boundaries. I tried to keep their routines the same, and I have a no-dog-on-furniture rule, which helps the cats know what is safe space. But mostly, they made it clear who would play and who wanted to be left alone, and the puppy caught on really fast. What was fun was to see which cats thought the puppy was a wonderful new toy and which where just above it all. It wasn't who we expected! The fun is just beginning! Good luck!
Thank you very much! Only 1 of the kitties has claws and her personality is such that I'm sure she'll have no problems. I'm also not super concerned about our male cat, he's my favorite for the fact that he's soooo easy going (shhhh, don't tell the girls that ;)) Our other female cat is very timid and she's really the one I'm most concerned about. Thanks again for the welcome's, I can't wait to get to know all of you and the pooches!
I have a neighbor's cat who visits me every day. When Yankee came home, he had the choice to get along or don't come visit me anymore. Cat still comes everyday, eats Yankee's food and sleeps in his bed. Yankee never knows what to expect. Sometimes the cat just rubs against him and other times, the claws come out. He has learned when to run. Yours will learn too.
Congrats on the puppy and you will love all the great info on this site.
Welcome and congratulations!
