Has anyone had their dog's blood tested (general CBC test)? I had Noah tested last week because for the past few months, he has been vomiting about once a week - always in the morning. I was worried because my golden retriever passed away from pancreatic cancer and her very first symptoms were vomiting. Noah's report says he has a high lymphocyte count. Anyway, Noah's vet thinks his results are fine. Of course I went on google and found out that this could mean a sign of cancer so I was freaking out until my vet said that everything looked ok. But I'm still worried... I did find on google that young dogs have higher lymphocyte counts than older adult dogs. I am having a urinalysis done this week to make sure everything comes back normal. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this... Noah's vet won't be back in the office until Wed.
I know some dogs vomit in the morning if they have an empty stomach...don't quite understand why, but I know several doods whose owners give them a bedtime or morning snack to prevent it. But don't know much about high lymphocytes in dogs or how common it is.
I have heard the increase with cancer over the last few years is up in Goldens and if it's increased for them whats to stop it from increasing it with our Doodles. There is a really good Golden cancer site..have to find the addy for it...but they offer a lot of good information on this. So far the blood work that has been done on both Hannah and Honey has all come back normal ranges...sometimes Hannah will vomit a little, but it's usually because of not eating in the morning. I always give my dogs two smaller meals instead of one larger one, it helps with their digestion and also their risk of getting bloat.
In people you can get elevated lymphocyte counts from many things including viral infections. Also, how high is high? If you do many tests it not at all unusual for one or more to be a liittle off the norm. I think if Noah's vet's not worried you needn't worry.
Sorry, I can't give any info on this subject either, but I'm exactly like you. I would be freaking out until I had absolute proof he was ok. In all likelihood he is fine since the vet's initial reaction to the blood test was not one of concern. I'll say a little prayer for you both - I know how you feel, I had a recent scare with Swayze. Keep us posted.
I don't blame you for worrying, but I think it's a good sign that the vet isn't worried. Jackdoodle & I are keeping fingers and paws crossed that Noah will be just fine.
Hi Jane hope this turns out to be nothing big!! Please keep us posted! I think if you ask for that 2nd opinion you will feel better=) I'm sure your vet will understand your concern, and why you want a 2nd opinion. I will be thinking of you both best of luck.......
Hi Jane - sorry to hear about Noah's problem. If I were you, I would tell another vet that you don't want to offend the vet you used, but since your golden died of cancer, you are extra concerned. After all, they are your babies, right? You could pose it more as a question that you are not sure what to do. If the other vet doesn't seem concerned, you may decide to drop it or go to another clinic. I would suspect the other vet will offer to look at the chart and give you an opinion.
How did he do this am? I will be thinking of you, and hoping for the best!
What were his overall WBC's?? I worked in a large veterinary practice, 6 doctors actually. They all worked together on most of our animals and still do! I would just let them know you want another eye to take a look at everything. I would hope they wouldn't be offended by something like that.
