Honey Update!!!!

We took a break at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY.  Honey was the hit of the big crowd here.  Everyone gathered around her asking questions.  She LOVED it.  Back on the road.  Still a long ways to go.  And she certainly is.....

Thanks for the update...so thoughtful! I want to say in my culture you are doing a Mitzvah....(a selfless act to help other than yourself) as my Bubie would say " a blessing on your head"
I am a little confused though ..I know she's headed for Texas to see a wonderful doc there, but then what??

Honey is going to need approximately 8-10 weeks recovery and rehab time Rodney. Dr. Beam is performing surgery on BOTH knees at the same time. Normally, only one is done at a time so that the dog has at least one stabilized leg to stand on as the other heals. Because Honey is a rescue dog and 2 surgeries would be both cost prohibitive and keep Honey in foster care for nearly 6 months,  Dr. Beam and Dr. Rachel before him, both agreed that it's best to repair both knees at the same time.  It's not however without risk....Honey has double the chance of re-injury with two unstable legs and will need to be kept somewhat immobile and assisted with the help of a sling to potty for at least a few weeks post surgery.  All things considered, she really needed to be in foster care with someone who has experience with post-operative care and rehab protocols.   Dr. Beam graciously offered to keep Honey with him and his staff for the first week to 10 days post surgery and he then recruited his amazing vet tech/rehab assistant to foster Honey through her complete recovery.

That's incredible...but then will she actually get to call some place home? Is she then up for adoption?
This dog has really been through a lot, but with awesome, caring people...what is in her future once rehab is complete??

ALL of the dogs in the DRC program are adopted into permanent homes. And there are usually dozens of people eager to adopt each one of them, so we can afford to be very choosy. Rest assured that Honey will get a wonderful permanent home.

the work that is done is amazing for these poor, defenseless  animals.

it is truly inspiring..the story of Honey & all her Angels. I honestly never heard anything like this before..and i am blown away.

People from all over the U.S. are coming to her  aid in so many different ways..Bravo to you all..she looks so happy despite the discomfort she must feel from the knee problem..just pushes thru it b/c of all the TLC she has been receiving, i am sure. if she could only write..she would have an interesting autobiography.
