Okay, this was absolutely awful.  I was at work this morning when a neighbor of mine sent me this:

http://www.suntimes.com/22355920-761/dog-falls-43-stories-from-loop...

We live on the 40th floor of one of only two buildings on that block.  There are thousands of people and dogs in these buildings, and new ones come and go all the time.  Were they sure it was the 43rd floor?  Could a maintenance person or the cleaning lady have left the door open?  A million horrible scenarios went through my mind.

I rushed home, got upstairs and Lola was not there.  I knew it was most likely because she was out with the dog walker but still it was such a long wait until they finally got back.  I'm just so glad she is okay.

I don't know which of my neighbors' dog this was, but someone won't be so lucky.  So devastating!

Truly horrible.

What is most disturbing to me is that the article says they don't know if the dog fell or was thrown.

I can't even imagine it.

I'm seriously considering putting Lola in daycare every time I leave the house until someone explains what happened and why.  For all I know there's some kind of sicko in the building somewhere.  It's just way too close for comfort.

I am so glad that Lola is okay.  This is a terrible thing for an owner to come home to.  But did you read the comments underneath the article?  I would like to shoot every one of those people for their lack of empathy and their smart-aleck remarks.

I did, and I got into a bit of a back and forth with one of them.  Not because I thought I'd change their mind but because I thought that at least when my neighbor comes home they will see that someone is standing up for them.  Then I got really scared that for all I knew, he was the one who did it and maybe I was provoking him to come after us next - so I deleted my comments.  Not until after I shared the fact that I live on the 40th floor of the same building though. That was stupid and emotional thing for me to do.

What a sad tale. I am very glad that Lola is safe.

Oh my god how terrible!

I can't even think about it!  So very sad.

how sad!

It gets stranger.  Apparently a cat went off last weekend from the same unit.  There are a lot of reporters here investigating.

That's really very creepy. It would be easy to believe there is some psychopath on the loose who's doing this. Two animals falling to their deaths from the same building in one week? This is the stuff of nightmares.

Really bizarre.

They should be.
