The article I have a link to on cnn.com states that the chemicals in the Glade Plug-ins and a few other household cleaners can cause health problems in dogs. I've also heard that Frabreeze can cause health problems as well.
Has anyone else seen or heard of this?

Here is another informative link: (thank you F, Calla & Luca for providing it)

Added note:
I have had pet birds for 20 years and I'm always very conscious of any airborne type cleaners, fragences, etc. as this potential hazards can kill them. Even overheating teflon coated pans can kill a bird and I've had a friend who lost her bird to this mistake. I remember hearing stories a few years ago when Febreeze came out on the market that it was causing health issues in dogs and cats whose owners would spray their animal beds and couches with the fabric freshener.
Here is a link to a news report on ABC about if these kinds of reports are true or not.

I, personally, still try to be more cautious regardless of what is being reported.

We did not have Christmas trees, naturally, when I was a kid. But my friend and I always made one for our dollhouses. I love that evergreen smell. Just get some fresh evergreen boughs around the holidays. I have been avoiding buying cake but I made a delcious apple crumble the other day. I used a mix but with Macoun apples, which we can only get at this time of year. They are my favorites, tart, firm delicious.
Love the idea of getting evergreen boughs! That crumble sounds delicious!
Yes, an ecologist needs to know. Remember if you smell it particles are getting into you!
Sometimes I am woefully naive about these types of things. You live and you learn I guess!
They may not be offering up a full story and I agree it's a tiny article - but the subject matter is huge.
These chemicals cause birth defects in humans, of course they mess up dogs. These products cause headaches, blurred vision, breathing difficulties, learning disabilities, and more. The combinations of one chemical with another is relatively unheard of study for the home - but some things become even more toxic when mixed. Scented things - solvents - and it goes on and on.
There is much information about it all, but I'm just going to post a favorite link that can answer many questions. http://www.debralynndadd.com/Default.aspx?SiteSearchID=3284&ID=... Just do a search on air fresheners, cleaners, and so on.
If these chemicals are toxic to people, they are on shelves everywhere - the only way they will stop making them is if people stop buying them. Some of us are highly sensitive to such - consider the hell of going to a grocery store that reeks of chemicals. It all smells like Round Up to me and has pretty much the same affect. There are things in your sofa, your mattress, duct-work, automobile, and closet that are toxic and nobody offers warnings (there are plenty of warnings, but one must dig). Just like the dog food issue, it's our job to learn. Grocery stores are being petitioned to get the junk off the shelf - workplaces are enforcing 'scent free zones' - it goes on and on ... These things build up in a living creatures system - it doesn't always just 'knock 'em over'.

Very well said Sally. And another big concern is the number of unregulated chemicals in cosmetics. People have no idea what they are putting on their bodies and that it is being absorbed into their systems. We need much more regulation and transparency in regard to the chemicals we are being exposed to on a regular basis. If anyone is interested in knowing more about the safety of their cosmetics, perfume or other body products check out this site, it might have some info on them:
I too don't believe in all these chemicals in my home , one of the things I do if I want to freshen the air in my home is put a small pot of water on the stove at simmer and add some nutmeg , cloves ,ginger . smells great and is safe for everyone . hey if someone happens to come over they think your baking a pie
