The article I have a link to on cnn.com states that the chemicals in the Glade Plug-ins and a few other household cleaners can cause health problems in dogs. I've also heard that Frabreeze can cause health problems as well.

Has anyone else seen or heard of this?

Here is another informative link: (thank you F, Calla & Luca for providing it)

Added note:

I have had pet birds for 20 years and I'm always very conscious of any airborne type cleaners, fragences, etc. as this potential hazards can kill them. Even overheating teflon coated pans can kill a bird and I've had a friend who lost her bird to this mistake. I remember hearing stories a few years ago when Febreeze came out on the market that it was causing health issues in dogs and cats whose owners would spray their animal beds and couches with the fabric freshener.

Here is a link to a news report on ABC about if these kinds of reports are true or not.

I, personally, still try to be more cautious regardless of what is being reported.

Okay, at least this article gives references and sources for the information.

Wow, 75% of households use some type of air-freshener??? I'm astounded! Why?

Smell-o-Sell, i just invented this.

It's catchy.

LMAO!

hahahaha!

Simmering some freshly cut lemons on the stove does wonders and is very cheap. :)

Absolutely Karen... I agree...love the smell of fresh lemons...and at Thanksgiving/Christmas time...I do that with apples, cinnamon, fresh cloves...it makes the Grandma's home made apple pie smell linger all throughout the house for as long as you want:)

I don't get that either. How bad do these houses smell? Maybe we have windows open all of the time and they don't??? It makes no sense to me to put an artificial smell in a house to cover up anything. Peeuuuu

We spritz smelly stuff in the bathroom only. And I remember buying some plug-ins a few years ago because I was always worried my house stunk because I had dogs because one time after being gone for 1-2 weeks we arrived to a very stinky 'animal' smelling house. It was gross.

LOL. My house doesn't smell bad but I always use the plugins from Bath and Body Works during the holidays because I like having the house smell like baked goods...  so it's not to cover up a scent rather to add one.

Good article F. Much more informative and I love this line...

"Nevertheless, the EPA has not advised against buying air fresheners..."

Gee, I wonder why not....
