I'm trying to figure out where Toby falls in the realm of doodle sizes. I think he's probably medium - I don't feel he's a big dog, but a lot of people comment "Oh my, you have such a big dog!" Last night we measured - he's 22 inches at the shoulder, and probably 65 pounds or so. He's 11 1/2 months old, so likely close to being full grown?
It's probably all that fluff! I'm quite surprised by what some people consider BIG. I think Rosco classifies at 80-85 lbs and 27 inches to the shoulder. But a lot of my friends say I have 'three big dogs' when Thule is probably no more than 24" to the shoulder and 60 lbs and NOT fluffy. Cass is shorter than Thule. I like them BIG!
Hannah is about the size of Toby, and I do not consider her medium at all. Hannah runs between 50 to 60 lbs and about 24" to the shoulder. Honey is around 35lbs and about half the height of Hannah, which would make her a medium, small to toy size
Found this on a poodle size chart.....and even the height is conflicting...
POODLE MINI 10-16" 24-28 LBS
POODLE STANDARD 12-18" 45-70 LBS
POODLE TOY 8-14" 12-17 LBS
This is AKC STANDARDS for Poodles:
The Standard Poodle is over 15 inches at the highest point of the shoulders. Any Poodle which is 15 inches or less in height shall be disqualified from competition as a Standard Poodle.
The Miniature Poodle is 15 inches or under at the highest point of the shoulders, with a minimum height in excess of 10 inches. Any Poodle which is over 15 inches or is 10 inches or less at the highest point of the shoulders shall be disqualified from competition as a Miniature Poodle.
The Toy Poodle is 10 inches or under at the highest point of the shoulders. Any Poodle which is more than 10 inches at the highest point of the shoulders shall be disqualified from competition as a Toy Poodle.
The Heavyweight group is for doodles over 65 pounds, so I am guessing Toby is going to be a big dog (if he isn't already). 22 inches is not all that tall, but at less than a year old, he probably will grow a little more. Both my "big" dogs continued to grow after a year. Hondo is 28 inches and weighs 106 pounds (as of yesterday) and Groucho Too is 30 inches tall at weighs about 95 pounds. Everybody also says to me that I have large dogs. But I also like them big. Here's a recent photo of them greeting guests at a recent party.
LOL they are "Big Dog's"....my Rotties weighed that and they were big dogs...lol. I don't think there is anything little on a Doodle..even their hearts overflow....
OK I apologize if this is as rude to say in the dog world as in the human world...but the chocolate dood looks like he needs to lose a few pounds. A bit thick around the middle. Nothing like my FIL's doggy, but could use a bit of a diet.

Wilson is a huge loving size of 75 # and is 24inches tall
and my neighbors think he is skinny!!!! He eats like a horse but gets a lot of exercise 4 mi in the morning playtime in the afternoon with friends then a 2 mi walk in evening after we eat dinner When I have to go back to work I know he will miss that long morning walk, but I am going to try and get up earlier and walk at least 3 miles - 4 more weeks then back to my little kindergarteners boo hoo hoo I am going to miss my Willy
I cut and pasted this info. Hope it helps you decide = I think your guy is definitely a standard. Mini Labradoodles will grow to between 12-16 inches and weigh somewhere between 15-23 pounds, with males generally bigger than females. Medium Labradoodles will generally grow between 17-20 inches and up to 35 pounds, with females usually slightly smaller than the males.
General balance is more important than absolute size. Slightly longer than tall, on a ratio as ten is to twelve. STANDARD size should be from 19 inches and up to 24 inches with dogs slightly larger than bitches MINIATURE size should be from 15 TO 18 INCHES with dogs slightly larger than bitches. Neither dog nor bitch in either size should appear fat nor thin, but be firmly fleshed with backbone not protruding. Well muscled to enable him to carry out his duties.
We had Tanner to the vet a couple of days ago for a check-up.....He is two and a half years old and now weighs 91 pounds and 26 inches at the shoulder.....He is in great shape and had a perfect check-up.
