Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I wonder how you guys chose your doodle? Did you have a chance to see and choose from several puppies or dogs observing them when playing and interacting with them? What were the signs that indicated you that that one was yours? Or did you just choose one by picture and couldn't see any personality in him yet? Did the breeder guide you? Are you happy with your choice?
What is your opinion about PAT or Volhard test and other similar tests?
Choosing a puppy is as difficult as choosing a wife, isn't it? Or do I complicate things too much?

Nice story! Thank you.
Mine was love at first sight with the breed. I saw pictures of Goldendoodles and since that moment couldn't sleep and stop talking about them. I looked if there was any GD rescue in our area, but didn't find any. So we started looking for a puppy.
My cousin back in Illinois has two and her sister has one. I fell in love with their pictures and the fact that they didn't shed and would be good for my allergies. I went onto a website called Arizonagoldendoodlebreeders.com and fell in love with Lucy's picture. For days I would go back and look at it, knowing my heart that I wanted/needed another dog. We lost our mini schnauzer in July of 2009.
I discussed it with my husband and he said to go ahead and get her. I called the number and spoke to a breeder broker (my words, not theirs). He said the puppy I wanted was in Kentucky and they could fly her to Arizona. Cha ching! I tried to find litters closer, but we so in love with my Lucy that I had to have her. We picked her up from the airport 5 days later and have been in love with her ever since.
When it came time to get Lucy a little sister, I went through the same website and Paris (nka Ethel May Muttz) was sent to us from Iowa.
Wow! Lucy and Paris are experienced travelers.
I know that website. I checked it when we were looking for a puppy. We are in California, but we were ready to travel in order to find our doodle.
Breeder was keeping the 2 males for her breeding program, so the choice was down to 4. One went to a guardian home, one went to a family with allergies (curlier and thought less likely to shed) and my choice was down to two. Breeder thought her sister would be better for apartment living (she lives with Christine+Ellie (on DK) in NYC). Plus, I visited every week starting at 2 weeks old and I liked the yellow ribbon one (Lady P) because she was always eating and was pudgy. I just knew she was the one (DH did also). I am so happy with my decision, but I'd probably be happy with any of them.
Peri turned out to be the thinnest of the bunch...ha! She is awesome!
