Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I am starting this now, as my town celebrated yesterday, but I know some people are celebrating today and Monday. Everyone can add throughout the weekend. How did your doodles do with the fireworks? I wasn't sure how Darwin would react, I was expecting anything from him barking like mad to falling asleep during them. It was more the latter. He seemed mildly interested in the first few booms, then spent the rest of the time laying in the grass and begging for potato chips. I should have figured, he doesn't get bothered by much.

We took him to the park that a carnival was being held at, and the biggest challenge ended up being all the food dropped on the grass. We gave more  "leave it" commands than we have in a whole month put together!

Darwin is such a laid-back dood!
Oddly enough, Jackdoodle is also not bothered by fireworks. I haven't had him right out where the actual fireworks shows are held, but we still hear them, along with firecrackers, and see plenty of skyrockets, and smaller fireworks displays here in my neighborhood (yes, they're illegal) and he doesn't react at all.
Wow Karen. We both have spooked dogs and neither are bothered much about fireworks! Well Look out Halloween :)
We certainly were not looking forward to this weekend!

Starlit likes food, dogs and bugs in that order. Nothing else. She spooks easily. Anything that was not there before or is out of place she notices and used to get clearly upset. Just one example: This Spring she walked outside only to find that the "thing" in the backyard looked different ( the garden had been tilled ) and refused to go outside for days. Days of holding her bladder.

But recently, after a lot of work on our part, including Spud, she seems to tolerate more and more. She seems happy and silly. But I knew this weekend would ruin everything.

Still, we went to the Boat Parade and sat on the shore. Kids chased us to our seat sticking fingers on her and wanting to Hug her... UGGHHHH People are still a huge NO for her.

Fireworks. We tried that too. Sat in our car with a bag full of cookies. Well if you ask her about them.............

She thought they were beautiful. Her head popped up each time. " Ohhhhh, Ahhhhhh, OOOOOooooooo Pretty. Now give me another cookie"

Go Figure :)
Oh Dog Fooey,
I was just here. Then at 9:45 my entire neighborhood decided to have a show of backyard fireworks. She is a mess :(

This too shall pass

Here's to you all.

P.S. They are silent :)
I hope the rest of your evening is peaceful for all of you. :)
Silent is wonderful! Thanks.
Sonny reacted at first. He has this nervous yawn thing he does. My husband sat with him and just pet him for a while. He seemed okay aftera bit. He just went to bed which is a little late for him b/c he kept switching his spot. Finally he choose his bed in my daughter's room and he is sound asleep as the fire works continue.
It was really peaceful here because I kept the fireworks on TV drowning out the local ones. That was fine. But now there are occasional bursts of home grown firecrackers or whatever and Luca barks and runs around a bit. Oh, well. It's the fourth of July after all
Rosco has always been more or less oblivious to fireworks and thunder storms.  We've had them going off and on for 2 nights with no apparent response from him.  Tonight's big shows haven't started yet (only 8:20 here) but I don't think he'll respond.
Knock on wood, but....my dogs have never had a fear/nervous reaction to fireworks. Every year we take one or two dogs and they love the evening out with the family. This year our new pup, Landon came. He's 13 weeks and loved it! I think one of the keys is early exposure and making it a very positive experience.

He either sat and watched with the kids...
