Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

How many doodles are in your family and how did you acquire them? We have one and are on the waiting list for #2 from our breeder next year. There's an opportunity to maybe help out a doodle in need right now and OMD he is cute. Im kind of the labradoodle go to lady in my community and answering questions etc. someone needs to rehome due to a job. I never thought I would be in this position but it literally fell in our laps. So worse case we'll probably foster the doodle until we can find a home but what if my boy becomes fast friends with him? Oh dear! My dog gets along with everyone and every dog.
I'm hoping to evaluate him this week regardless.
I'm not sure why I am writing this. I guess I just need to hear stories from other doodle lovers. My dream has always been to have 3 doodles : a cream, a black and a red. Large doodles. My hubs is cool with two. We have a cream and have a deposit on a red litter if it happens. This dog of course is black. Our current doodle is 10 months, this boy I'm trying to help out is 6 months.

Ack!

We also have one and I would love another. Our limit will be 2. I would have many if it were up to only me. (probably a good thing that its not!) I find it so hard to do this but... why not "go with it" and see what happens. Good Luck!!

We have one and in the process of the next one.  I have envied every single new doodle that has come on this site since I joined.  Hi, my name is Judy and I am a Doodle Addict...I don't care who knows that and even if I could be cured I am certain I would have a relapse.

Has the puppy's current owner notified the breeder that he/she needs to rehome him? Many if not most reputable breeders have a stipulation in their purchase contracts that you must notify the breeder before transferring ownership of the dog. Many good breeders prefer to rehome their dogs themselves, or at least be part of the process.

I have always had one dog at a time. That works best for me. I have a soon-to-be-nine-year-old labradoodle who I adopted from a private shelter.

Karen,
You are always a wealth of information. Thank you! Those are good questions and ones I will pursue. Honestly in NM most of our breeders are not the best. Our own dog is actually from Colorado because I did a lot of research andi wasn't happy with what I found here in my state. My uneducated guess would me no stipulation exists regarding relinquishment of this dog and Ill bet it was a BYB. Still I've rehabilitated dogs from shelters in the past and after training found them great homes. For me multi dogs work well but since kids, honestly I'm not sure what the multi dog number is optimal for our family. Pre kids, hubs and I had 3 dogs (2 purebreds and one rescue mix) and I usually picked up 1 from our shelter to train well then find a good match (home) for the dog (I've always found if a dog has decent trained "skills" he/she was more likely to stay in a family). Anyway, a lot to think about. Thanks!

I think it is WONDERFUL that you will foster and help out this doodle in need.  Perhaps while you are fostering him you will fall in love and decide to keep him but if you do not keep him it's ok too because i'm sure you can help him find a great forever home that fits him.

Did you write this discussion because you want BOTH the doodle in need and the puppy next year?  haha :)

I have two doodles... I love them both dearly but sometimes I think to myself that I am more of a one dog person.  We have doggy sat for my cousins dog and friends dog on multiple occasions and honestly (for me) there was a big difference from one dog to two but not that big of a difference from 2 to 3.  We recently fostered a dog but that was stressful because Bender didn't like this foster dog for the ENTIRE time until the last day.  The last day they ran around the backyard like they were bestest of friends since the beginning of time... go figure.

We have three (cream, red and black) and all were from the same breeder.  We always intended to have two close in age (that was Tank and Sully).  Beau (the black) was about a year later and the chocolate girl that I wanted turned into a black boy:).

In our experience, going from one to two was a piece of cake.  Going from two to three was very different. Tank and Sully were very bonded and I assumed it would just extent to Beau.  Wrong.  We all got some training and it's worked out very well.  They all get along and interact great.  Everyone has their own "place".  Tank and Beau are high energy and love to play fight, play chase and I've never seen either get totally tired.  Sully on the other hand is a couch potato and loves nothing better than to snuggle. They are all very different personalities and I liken them to well known personalities.  Tank is the JR Ewing of the doodle world, Sully is Woody Allen and Beau is Matthew Broderick in Risky Business.    It is work and was tough at the start but now we would not have it any other way.  If one is gone to the groomer, the other two mop and wait by the door.  Oddly enough, if one is gone, it seems too quiet.

Good luck.

I have three, two creams and a black. My Shea is a big boy,Mya is a regular size Doodle and Aja,regular size and she is a rescue.. When she came to us she wasn't sure of grass, and was scared of everything. Running thru the screen slider twice. We've had her now for two years and she s wonderful. They have always gotten along with no problems, loves to play and the best thing the other two pretty much trained her.

We have two doodles and a Springer Spaniel.  When we got our second doodle, we also had a lab/Australian Shepherd mix.  Our first doodle was bought from a breeder and the second was an adult  rescue that we fell into like it sounds like you are.  Our rescue is the BEST dog in the world - shhhhh, don't tell Ned, but Clancy is a much more loving dog and is extremely eager to please us.

My husband's theory is that a dog who is rescued knows what a lucky break and is more eager to please!

I think it's fabulous that you are considering a foster. I wish I could help out in that way as well. I would worry about being a foster failure as well, though. I have two boys, both from a breeder in CO. But I swear that if I did not have to work, I would definitely become a foster for Doodle Rescue Collective. Good luck with your decision. I think if you can, helping out a doodle in need is the best you can do (and still keep the number of your own doodles to 2).

hi we have two labra doodles  now  and what fun they both are .Both our  are minies .our oldest one is cream color and she is 15 months and our youngest carmel and she  is 5 months . From day one they were pals and get along very well, my oldest one turned from puppy to big sister the first day . I love having two doodles as there is never a dull moment with them .

It took 23 years of marriage to convince my DH that we needed a dog.  We have ONE, which we adopted (rescued) from a family of "not dog people" when he was 2.  Bodi is our baby . .. . . a spoiled only child. (with 2 adult brothers)
