Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So we were pretty certain we wanted a mini UNTIL our breeder let us know that one of her current puppies is available after a family changed their mind. Of course I fell head over heels with his cuteness as soon as I saw his photos! He's an F1B standard goldendoodle expected to be 40-45lbs, so now we need to decide if we want to stay on our original waiting list for the F1B mini (expected to be 20-25lbs) or if we should welcome this little cutie into the family. He already has the cuteness factor going for him for sure! We are a little concerned with sizing since we have two small kids. I'd love to see how big your doodles are and how much they ended up weighing to sort of get a better idea of what we can expect and to hopefully help us a bit with our HUGE decision :)

That's definitely one of the reasons why I keep going back on fourth. If we stick with our original plan of going with a mini that's expected to be 20-25lbs but ends up growing into the 40lb range I can still pick him up and handle him on my own when my husband is sent out to sea, on the other hand if we go with the standard size that's expected to be 40-50lbs but ends up growing into the 70-80lb range that makes it a harder on me to care for on my own the months my husband wont be around.

I agree that the 20 - 25 lb range is ideal!

Here is a pic of our two.

The one in the back is an F1 and just over 80lb.

This is when the little guy was only 14 weeks so just about 20 lb.  He is now 26!

Our Vern is a mini, too.....a mini horse :) He weighs in at 112 pounds. My friend who went with me to pick him up said his mom was huge....I never noticed....I just kept looking at Vern. Our Fudgie is 50 pounds and I can still pick her up. She is tall and lean and stunning. I have met Doodles in all sizes and they are all adorable. Only you can decide what size is right for you, but personally, I think a little bigger might be better with smaller kids. Good luck.

112 lb! WOW that really is a mini horse! hahaha :) But definitely a cute one for sure!! :) I can't even imagine how I would be able to handle a little guy that big. The dad of the standard F1B goldendoodle is a 45lb standard poodle, I am not sure how much the mom weighs but based on the photos I would guess she's about in the 40-45lb range too.

He he, big ol' Vern.

Kona is a large miniature double doodle (half medium F1B Goldendoodle and half miniature multi gen ALD) and is ideally 25 pounds, but currently 30 pounds.

His adopted sister  Maggie is a very athletic 30 pounds (she is an American Eskimo/Briard Sheepdog mix). Both are just under 17 inches tall.  I love the size.  My niece's doodle Dash is an F1B Goldendoodle and is a tall, trim, muscular athletic 120 pound small horse.  I have a tiny house, so the 30 pound puppies are ideal for me.  Dash has been raised around small children and is better with children than adults.  (My niece has 5 kids)

So adorable!!! LOVE how your two dogs look like twins in that last pic! :) We actually decided to stay on our original list for the mini doodle. Since sizing is just too unpredictable I feel the mini doodle is what will fit our family best, we can defiantly handle a larger size mini but a 100lb doodle would defiantly be a lot more then we can chew :)

Yes Michelle.  They often look like twins.  They even hug each other every day.  So sweet.  Many people assume that Maggie is a Doodle, but once you meet her and watch her herd all the dogs, you can tell her brain only believes she is an 80 or 90 pound ancient herding dog!

Your two are so adorable!

Thank you.  I lucked out that Maggie found us and adopted all of us.  They are definitely hearts wrapped in fur and bring me joy every day.

I cannot even handle the amount of cuteness in these photos!! So precious

Just so adorable!
