How old was your Doodle when he/she got their full coat?

My Doodle is 8 1/2 months old. Do we have a ways to go, or are we about there? I'm hoping for more shaggy curls :)

Loki is pretty and has lovely waves. I don't know that she will change a lot but you never know ntil the adult coat is finished and the timing for that varies.

Loki might get a little longer.  Hard to know for sure.  I'd say probably shortly after a year you'll pretty much know.

I think her face will remain "open"--with less shagginess there then some doodles, but you are not even close to finishing the coat transition--10-14 months is the USUAL time when the puppy coat sheds out  (and often mats into) the adult coat--lots of people trim their pups up during that time to prevent a total matting and then shaving...the coat can then get thicker and curlier, but not always--not set and fast rules with doodles!

She probably won't change a bunch. She looks like she has a similar coat to my Hartley and he hardly changed at all as he got older.

Myla has just turned 14 months and just started to shed out her puppy coat!  Our last doodle Zak never changed her coat at all - it was always a silky fleece, never shed and I could finger through the tangles when she cuddled with me.  I have read so much about the "dreaded coat change" on DK and never understood it and figured I was really lucky with Myla also until the last two weeks!!!  Mats are appearing daily and she HATES being combed or brushed.  She LOVES being cuddled and petted but she soon figures out when I am not "petting" but trying to "detangle"!!!  Myla has a very doodly coat, a fleecy curl so it will be interesting to see what happens after this stage!  Right now we are waiting for our "grooming table" which we just ordered from Costco to help us keep up with the mats! 

I really thought that we skipped this stage but at 14 months, it has started!!!!  So, I would say, you never know until 14 months!!!!

Thanks for your feedback! The way it sounds, you just never know. I was really hoping his face would get shaggy, however he looked so much like a golden in the beginning that I am surprised that he has gotten as curly as he has. And in the past couple months he has gotten a lil beard and some fuzzy face goin on. Sp if it keeps growing till hes 12-14 months, who knows what we'll end up with! Again thanks to all of you for your comments :)

Oh, it will keep growing all right--doodles grow hair their whole lives and can get pretty darn shaggy!

How's his shedding doing? With Willow, unless I give her a good brushing and loosen up some hairs, my clothes remain hair free! I can wear fleece again!! (which is good, because it feels like summer is never going to show it's face around here....snowed yesterday..ugh!!)

Willow's hind legs (the haunch part) are something different now.... if I pull back her hair, there is a different texture white fur growing (I think it may be prone to matting once it grows out). I think once she get's cut, she will lose all her golden hair.  Her face looks MUCH like her brothers, and I do believe she will have facial hair and beard, not like our schnauzers full face, but long hairs around her face. There was a doodle I saw on this site that I thought, "hey, Willow could end up looking like him!!" I wish I could remember who it was though...

I really enjoy the discussion in the group F1 Doodles about coat changes. Lots of pictures, and major transformations!

Regardless, Loki is one handsome guy.

Hi Sarah! Loki still sheds...we still have doodle bunnies around the house :) Are you going to cut Willow's hair? Im afraid to cut Lokis...I dont think he would be curly anymore, Afraid it would grow back straight. He is very light under his gold to but so was our Golden. And he always grew out to be the redish color again. I hear so many diff things on here about the coat growing and changing (or not) so i guess we will see! Come to think of it, Im ready for a new Willow pic :) I want Loki's legs to b shaggy to!! Is Willow a snuggler? Loki sure is :)

 

Hope you get summer weather soon! Seemed like it was never going to get here either. Now it rains like everyday and always windy. Hopefully we will get some good weather days soon :)
