Okay, East Coasters.... when you can please check in with us. I'm up in the middle of the night on the west coast, watching the news and wondering how all of you are doing!

Here Here for the Linemen.  Whew.  That is remarkable considering the damage to the substations in NJ being completely destroyed by explosions. One after another.  Just remarkable to restore your power so soon.

Restore the power is first priority.  Then, bring the businesses back up and running ASAP.

Years ago, in the Northridge Earthquake in California, the housing market was similar to now.   I am wondering if they will be utilizing empty houses to shelter those in need as they did in CA?   I am sure they are or will be.  That housing slump actually helped that disaster in the late 90s.  Similar to now, maybe something good can come out of all the years of bad

Interesting ideas. FEMA has set up housing for the thousands of linemen who have come into the state. Lots of people are being housed in schools and they want the school to open Monday. So lots to do.

As you know, I have read more disaster stories/studies than anyone wants to read.  Northridge,  was up and running and back to normal in 33 days!  Huge bridges in CA, every one out of shelters,  housing, and 89 % of all debris was recycled!  Amazing.  33 days.

Without being political here, FEMA and this administration is set up similar to what it was in the Northridge Earth Quake ( versus situations like Katrina's setup)

I am watching this one and look forward to learning from the studies.  From my viewpoint, it seems to be rolling along.   I really do have to give credit to the humans affected in this situation also.  Resilient.   And because of them, it also seems to be moving on schedule

I do think so far from the President to the Governor there has been great cooperation in expediting things. Bipartisanship at it's best.

Woooo hoooo!!  Excellent news!

Great news, F!!

Hooray for power! Great news! I had the same thought when ours came back on, I just enjoyed the silence.

So glad to hear this F! It must be such a relief!

What a wonderful photo and memory Janie. I did see a damaged carousel in one of the news stories but I have no idea if it was this one. I'm sure there were probably others as well.

I can't seem to reply to anyone specifically in this discussion but wanted to say:
@Joanne - I PM'd Shelly and Charottle (Paz) but no word yet.
@F. - glad you are back on line. The shout out to the linesmen was well deserved. In no way would I compare out situation here to yours, but our city was hardest hit in Canada with the Northern section of the city averaging 2-3 trees/poles down and the same number of privacy fences etc down per block according to my unscientific observation while walking the dog. A few are still without power and sadly one on our linesmen was eletrocuted and died while working. 45 years old. A sad day for the community.
Very sad. So sorry BG. It's amazing how big this storm was... How many places and people impacted.

Yes, so many people have lost their lives due to this storm.
