I just saw a few of the most disturbing things ever and wonder if there's any hope for humankind in general.  I first saw the documentary "The Cove" a couple nights ago which details the dolphin slaughter in Japan.  Very moving and emotional.  Then I saw the cat in the trash video and finally yesterday I saw probably one of the cruelest things ever involving puppies.  It's so terrible I can't even describe it.  I'm sure many here have seen it as it is going viral.  Seriously, how can can we possibly survive as a species?!  Sorry, had to vent...gave chloe a big hug and feel better now :)

I think this is something that all good people struggle with. And I understand and am sorry that it is pulling you down right now. Sometimes I wonder more how other species are going to survive US rather than how WE are going to survive!

I really have to monitor what goes into my head as far as the videos, internet information and TV shows. Otherwise I get completely overwhelmed and depressed.

Someone said once that the human nervous system is not wired to take in the collective bad news of the entire planet. Which is exactly what we get on a daily basis now. (One downside of the "information super highway!" ) And I know in my case this is completely accurate! Maybe you too?

Take a break and have a great time with Chloe and forget about the world for a while!! Hugs from both of us!

I really empathize with you. I monitor my "bad" news closely otherwise I can have a really bad time with it. I have been this way as long as I can remember. I don't know about the human race, but I am not wired to have my nose rubbed in the nightmares and misery that occurs daily. It is not that I don't know, it is that I do know and simply cannot bear to be continually reminded.

If I ran the world every single source of information would have to report 10 good kind things for every one bad thing. Because I really believe that humans are basically kind. But humans are endlessly curious and simply can't restrain our curiousity about the awful and so that sells newpapers - or whatever.

Have a better day tomorrow and find 5 funny or kind things in the "news".
I like the NBC segment on the Nightly News, called "Making a Difference". It' true you have to go through the whole broadcast for good news but at least there's some at the end.
We canceled our newspaper subscription. If we want to read it, we borrow or buy one. We turn on the TV or radio news when we actually want to listen. This keeps us from receiving news overload and allows us to really pay attention when we actively seek information.
We cancelled ours too and don't miss it a bit!! It was wrong most of the time anyhow! As if BAD news wasn't enough! It had to be WRONG bad news!
