I am FUMING mad!! And SAD too!!!

 Sorry, this doesn't have anything to do with Doodles other than one Doodle mom feeling enraged!! Some of you may have heard me mention, in my previous posts, my neighbor who always has had Dachshunds and always named them Emily. The current dog Emily3 was adopted from a rescue more than 2 years ago. She came from a difficult situation and we were all so happy that she had found a great forever home. The neighbor made Emily3 clothes and walked her all the time. Tara and I and DH walked with them as a small pack to get the dogs used to being around other dogs and people, etc. We are not actually friends but just kind of run into each other while walking and chat and walk together.

 

WELL, today DH was walking Tara and ran into the neighbor but no Emily. When asked where Emily was she replied that Emily had been adopted out.  DH of course was stunned! When asked why she said it was because her husband had gotten new hearing aids and when Emily barked it HURT HIS EARS!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!

 

I don't want to do anything that will get me arrested so I thought telling you about it might help release some of my rage!!!

 

It is just so sad...poor little Emily...starting all over again. I just hope that her new home is truly forever and that they appreciate and really LOVE her!!

Oh, and one more thing. She told DH that her husband just got a new job and if he isn't home enough she is going to get ANOTHER DOG!!!!!! (Raging now!!)

:( this happens more than we know. Too many want the "In" dog, the perfect dog, this one is hard to work with dog, it got too big dog..........and yes, it barks dog.

Tell her Emily rhymes with family. See what she thinks of that word. Most of us don't get rid of family --even when we want to and no dog gives up the family.

This post has been really getting to me. Doesn't it seem lately that so many dogs are being rehomed? I feel like I am seeing many more posts about the DRC having more fosters in its program.
Does this make anyone else super sad?
I have been more obsessive than usual about my dogs lately. I keep imagining dogs being stranded and confused and left at a shelter's doorstep (and thinking of Peri and Taquito in that position). I think the doodle that was recently rescued in So. CA named "Kingston" has really really gotten to me. He is beautiful and little and really reminds me of Peri for some reason.
I know this is a bit of a sidestep on this discussion, but I have just been really depressed thinking about this lately. I go home and just squeeze the life out of my dogs. They look at me like "love ya mom, but what the dood has gotten into you?".

Well, your post just brought tears to my eyes! I have been doing the same thing lately and Kingston really struck a cord with me too! I live in southern Oregon and was trying to figure out a way to get to S. California to help him before he was rescued!! I kept thinking of Tara in that position too. A lot, but not all, of the increase has to do with the housing crisis. People surrendering their dogs to shelters because they "have" to move into a new home that doesn't take dogs. Personally I would live in my car before I would give Tara up!!

But one good thing is that for some reason our community NEEDS dogs, especially little dogs and our local Humane Society has a bus that makes trips to California and gets little dogs out of kill shelters and brings them back here for adoption. This is a popular area for people who are retired and I think they like little dogs.

Anyhow, the point is that there are some wonderful organizations out there too. And thank God for DRC!! By the way and this is REALLY of topic but how does DRC find dogs like Kingston? How did they know that he was in a kill shelter in California?

Volunteers for the DRC are always scanning the ads on Petfinder - they will have "expiration dates" on those ads and you can tell when a dog's time is up. Many members of the DRC also know the great rescue organizations - for example, if a dog is with xyz rescue, DRC would never pull that dog if it knows he/she is safe with a foster home already. DRC pulls the ones in shelters/pounds that kill. DRC also gets rehomes.

A DRC rep can better answer that - I am no expert. I do check my area on a daily basis to make sure there are no doods in kill situations.

BTW I think that Kingston is striking a cord with lots of folks. The Ark. 8 "mad scientists" have been also...

Yes, the little "mad scientists" with their tiny little bones showing were incredibly heart breaking and like you said, at times it all gets a bit overwhelming and I just hang on to Tara so tight I'm afraid I'm going to break her!!

I often see items on the local news, NYC metropolitan are, involving bringing busloads of dogs from various places to this area for adoption so apparently they can find adoptive families around here too. Sometimes when I need to leave my dogs on the screen porch for a moment, for example to get a towel to wipe muddy paws, they look so perplexed. Imagine if you just left them behind at a shelter!

Maybe poor Emily3 was adopted by a loving family that fully understand the Dachshund breed and she now has a forever home. Some dog owners should be ashamed how they treat animals!!!

The more I think about it the more I am convinced that Emily3 is better off without these people!! It sounds like eventually they would have rehomed her for some other minor offense anyhow so better sooner than later! Hopefully, her new home will be a loving one and after an adjustment period it will be a great move for her!!

They are shameless!! I would have been embarassed to give "her barking makes my husband's ears hurt" as an excuse for rehoming my dog. I would have made up something more palatable to tell people!

This is truly saddening. I constantly worry about things like Darwin being stolen, or lost...(shudder) I am actually pretty obsessive about keeping him safe and near me. I can't imagine how horrible it would be to lose my precious pup, and it's like a slap in the face to see someone just discard their dog because the barking annoyed them. There are SO many options, TRAINING being the first that comes to mind. The fact that she is already looking ahead to her next dog is disturbing. GGGGRRRRRRRR!!!!!

First of all.. so glad we could help keep you out of jail, but had it gotten to that point due to this WEIRDO of a neighbor of yours... I think the least we could have done was rally up a collection for your bail - LOL.. he actually had the best case scenario... dog barking too loud... turn down the hearing aid!
I definitely think these two should be reported, and as for the other one.... debarking a DOG?! I have NEVER heard of such an awful thing! I kind of question that vet too.... I can't believe a vet would even do that type of a procedure
