Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
This is really dumb and has nothing at all to do with doodles, dogs, pets of any kind. It has to do with me being an idiot.
I just hit my head, really hard. I wacked it against the corner of the cupboard door in the kitchen when I got up from putting the dog food in the bowl (ok, I knew I could tie in the doodles). anyway, it really hurts, it's like pulsating sharp pain. It hasn't stopped for about 30 minutes. The pain is spreading and I'm getting a headache and it hurts when I touch the spot. I've never hit my head this hard. I googled around for answers but it seems like there are a lot of internet forums with really stupid and unreliable advice. So, my question is, do I have a concussion or something or am I over reacting?
Am I supposed to go to bed and sleep it off or keep myself awake in case I never wake up and my doodles end up eating my dead body. I better show them where the kibble is just in case...
Sorry for the odd question but I tried calling a couple of people and nobody is around. i figure there are a bunch of nurses and moms on the site who might know if I should wait it out or go see a doctor ...
Also, I had just poured myself a glass of wine. Do I drink it to numb the pain or do I avoid it incase I'm about to have an anurysm (sp??) or stroke or something? Just wondering ...
...I'm leaning towards drinking the wine.

Sherri,
I am a nurse - you have received great advice but I think that you err on the side of caution when it comes to your brain, especially when you live alone. Although I would expect that area that you clunked to hurt for quite some time - maybe days, I am concerned that your headache is spreading. You need to either go to the ER to have it assessed or have someone stay with you tonight to make sure you are okay. The problem is, if you start to have severe problems you are not in a great position to recognize them independtly, since many symptoms of severe concusion (or a bleed) alter your judgement. So I suggest having a friend come and spend the evening! And no wine.
Good News! my cousin is on her way over! She can drink the wine so it doesn't go to waste. Win-Win!
Great have a relaxing evening and post in the morning so that we know that you are okay. We will evaluate by your spelling and grammar - lol!
oh my goodness, quite the commotion I've caused. Ok, I'm going to not drink the wine and see if I can call the ER. I'm also giong to pop some tylenol and put some ice on it and see how we go.
I knew I could count on DK!

Take care.
that's exactly what I did after going on the hospital website. I figure if I'm ok on the computer it can't be that bad, right?
anyway, after a whole bunch of questions about gun shot wounds and fluid coming out of my nose (none of which apply to me), they basically said to take some tylenol and put some ice on it every 20 minutes. They said if there is in an increase in the sharpness of the pain after icing it then I should call back.
They also said to stay awake for 2 hours and when I do go to bed tonight to set an alarm to wake myself up. I told her the alarm thing is silly because if I don't hear the alarm that means I'm already dead and there's nothing anyone can do about it...
I'll see if i can convince someone to come over...
but I really do think I'm fine now. It still hurts and probably will for a few days but the public health nurse said that's normal, and so is some mild dizziness. She said it doesn't sound like a brain injury, just a scalp wound (i.e. I bruised my head)...
Brucegirl, is this the number they advertised on those commercials where the two guys got the poison ivy, or the woman drops the hot pot of boiling water? I guess I should have paid closer attention...
A sense of humor is a good sign. I think you must get that from me, lol.
ROFL!
I have been off DK pretty much lately and this discussion is amazing... amazing advice and amazing humor. Love you guys!
@Sherrie, So glad to hear your cousin is coming over to get plastered and pass out while you are lying in bed unconscious with a comma. This story just gets better and better. Seriously, I hope you are feeling infinitely better.
LMAO!!!!
I just read this and t sounds like my response. You should be fine but sore.
You are right on about the alarm clock, that sounds like the worse advice ever. They may want to rethink that one.
