So, today my sister and I went swimming at about 2 pm. I took Huff outside with us because he loves it so much when he chases the splashes coming from the pool. (not the best idea) He did that for a good hour and he got tired and hot so I put him back inside and went back in the pool and my mom called us in about 15 min later or less saying that he was lethargic and wouldn't stand up. I decided to give him a cold bath to cool him down and when he was done with his bath, he was shivering so I wrapped him up in his blanket (also not the best idea) and when my dad got home, he shivered a lot and it turned out that he was actually hot and his gums were pale so we gave him watermelon and that seemed to help and since he was still shivering and lethargic, we took him to the emergency vet and they said it was most likely that he had heat stroke but we did a good job of keeping him cool. My poor baby boy could have died! He is okay temperature wise but now he has blistery, raw, and peeling paws that are going to take at most, two weeks to heal. The vet gave us antibiotics (to prevent infection in his paws) and pain killers for him. He is not going to be walking very much for the next few weeks and when he does walk outside, he will be wearing socks. If you guys want to follow his healing process, I will probably be writing a few blogs about it. I feel like it is all my fault (which it really was) and I should have thought it through now.  think he will get better sooner than two weeks (his birthday party is going to be in 10 days) Thanks everyone for reading this...

It was from chasing splashes haha:) I had a feeling his paws were going to get irritated but I tried to stop him from running a little bit. I had no idea his paws were going to get that bad.
You did the right thing in getting him cool and that is Important !!!   We all learned from this especially and hopefully the hot weather will be with us (currently it is not in WI).  Keep us posted Wilson is Sending  Doodle hugs Huffs way
This is scary stuff Taylor!!  I am so glad that he is okay other than the paws.  Next time I guess he better be IN the pool with you guys!! :)  Don't be hard on yourself about this incident. Many of us have learned lessons at our pets' expense! The important thing is that you LEARNED an important lesson and it won't happen again. Hope the paws heal quickly!
I actually tried to get him in the pool when we were outside. No go. Thanks, me too:)

This is my fear.  It's so hot and humid in Virginia Beach but Brinkley has so much engergy.  It could happen to any of us.

You did the right thing by taking him to the vet. Don't beat yourself up about him getting heat stroke, doodles have a knack of not showing when they are uncomfortable or in pain. They are too stoic for their own good! I hope Huff feels better soon.
That is true. Doodles don't show how bad they feel usually. Thanks:)
Ahhh, sorry Huff didn't feel well.  The good news is that you were paying attention when he didnt feel well and took proper care of him.  An hour of play doesn't seem like a long time, just depends on the temps, humidity, was he drinking during the day, lots of stuff.  You are not a bad doodle mom.
Thanks:)
