Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I'm Sarah from Colorado and I got Dahlia from a breeder in early June of this year at about 9 weeks old after researching for a year on breeders, day cares, etc. Now at about 6.5 months old and searching the internet almost daily for recommendations specific to doodles, I finally found this wonderful site!

Dahlia came to me with giardia, which I was fully aware of. She was on her meds for almost a week when I picked her up, but needless to say she was quite the handful for a first time dog owner. As soon as she got home, I failed to recognize her bowel distress and she ended up having pudding poop on my bedroom floor. Even at 9 weeks old she was very good about telling me she had to go to the bathroom, which was exhausting, but also made me happy to see that she was really as smart as all the fuss.

Honestly, from day one I kept saying, 'I can't wait until she is 6 months old.' Which seems weird, but I was hopeful that her little things that literally kept me up at night would eventually fade, such as her nipping that made my clothes look a modern day beggar and my hands look like, well I had a puppy, or her whines to go potty at 2am. And much to my surprise, she has gotten significantly better! Even with those things though, I couldn't imagine having a better puppy. She doesn't chew - which is actually frustrating at times when you just want her to sit and simmer with a bully stick or toy. Loud noises don't bother her - I honestly thought she might be deaf for the first couple weeks I had her. She doesn't have separation anxiety, thunder anxiety, firework anxiety. She absolutely LOVES people and dogs. And she practically taught herself to be potty trained. I think about all the different breeds I have met and read about and how having one of them as a puppy could be a real challenge and considering her giardia (2 times) she was still a delight.

I can't wait to interact with all of you about our love of doodles!

Dahlia is adorable! Welcome to DK.

What a great story--so glad you are happy with your new pup--I am no expert but I think I have seen people say on this site that the pup can get reinfected from the remains of their waste in your yard--so you have to scoop all poop and spray the area with bleach---maybe that is why she got it twice? And maybe she could get it again? I sure hope not--sounds like she is a great pup!

Since she does not chew, you can buy a shank bone, clean out the marrow, boil it a bit and then stuff it with her kibble and some pumpkin or peanut butter--then freeze it--that will keep her busy for a bit!
