I'm so mad at my dood

I just took Bailey for her poop walk and, without me looking, she picked up something from the side of the road.  I knew she had something in her mouth because of the way she had her mouth closed and the look she was giving me. Kind of a guilt ridden look.

I told her to leave it and she would not.  I tried to open her mouth and she had it shut like a locked door. I kept telling her to leave it while I was trying to open her mouth and she growled at me!  My girlfriends garage was open and I knew she had some doggie beef jerkies on the shelf so I put one up to Baileys nose and she kept drooling like a faucet, but would not drop it for the jerky. She had it sideways in her mouth and I could see that it looked about 2 inches long, but again, I could not get her mouth open and she was really mad that I wanted it.  GRRRRRRRRRR

Then within a second she chewed twice and swallowed it.  It was crunchy.  It may have been a bone, but I'm not sure.

Do you think she would have bitten me?  I'm so upset with her...

I always teach my dogs early on to open their mouths for me.  I don't spend adequate enough time on it to get a 100% drop but I can open their mouths. What I do is cup my hand over their snout so that my fingers can press in on their lips and push them into their teeth so it is uncomfortable and they WANT to open their mouth.  Perhaps I've been lucky with malleable dogs but all four of the dogs we've had have been okay with that and unless that conveyor belt tongue already has the item down their throat I can retrieve just about anything. I actually shook poop out of Rosco's mouth once.  He's not a regular poop eater so I didn't see that snatch coming...eeewwwww.

I have only had Murphy growl and act like he was even thinking of biting me when he was in severe pain from an ear infection and I had to put medication in and clean his ears. It was scary, but I really didn't feel it was a discipline problem at the time because he was really in pain and just wanted it to stop. I did tell him NO and make him lay down to get treated anyway, but I treated when he did and felt really bad for having to do it to him. He's only growled at someone once again, and that was the Vet when she tried to touch his ear too soon after the first episode. Never did it again, but never had that bad and infection again either.
