The first pup looks curlier, but they both seem fairly curly. It's really impossible to predict temperament without a lot of input from the breeder. Are you able to meet the parents and if not do you know anyone who has? What does the breeder say about the parents? Are they high energy or lower energy? That counts for a lot.
I want one that's calm laid back loving friendly and intelligent. I also don't want one that constantly plays all the time like my Boston terrier (it's exhausting).
LOL
I'm sorry, but your ALL your comments and puppy are an oxymoron :)
Ashley,
Oxymoron is a term. Here is the definition. http://www.oxymoronlist.com/
It will be several YEARS until your puppy is what you describe. Everything you describe is the opposite of what a puppy is for many years.
If you met a wonderful dog such as what you describe and want the same, know that the owner probably spent years training, training, training the dog to be a wonderful lifetime companion.
A good dog, is not born, it is made
Sure, some have more active temperaments that some breeders may be able, with testing, to estimate around 6 weeks, but that guess also takes into consideration what a human will contribute to the puppy's well being.
You WILL then, be exhausted by a new puppy. They need hours and hours of exercise for many months to come.
My dog is 6 and still requires at least an hour, if not much more, exercise and my time per day
Doodles are not known to be too laid back. Most describe these dogs are way above average in activity. Turtles are laid back. DOODLES ARE NOT
I think most retrievers and poodles and retriever mixes are 'loving' - so that won't be hard.
And they will probably all be intelligent enough.
If calm is what you want, then be sure the breeder knows this. Does she do any temperament testing too? I don't know if I trust it 100%, but it was correct for my Rosco.
Before I got Rosco (huge, reddish dog in my profile photo), I wanted a cream/white female. Well after temperament testing the lightest female was found to be really shy and tentative (NOT at all my preference) and the other female was hyper hyper hyper. So .. I went with the BIGGEST, red, BOY because his personality fit what I wanted. And boy am I happy I did. I would say ask which are the calmest pups (if that is super important) and let the looks fall where they will.
There is a test that breeders use to try and determine the temperament of the puppies.

A good breeder will know about this test.
Be sure, you have a good breeder. Not just someone who decided they have a cute dog and thought they would earn some extra bucks breeding their dogs :(

It appears that the breeder you are looking at does not do health testing on the parent dogs and thus would not be considered a reputable/recommended breeder. Have you checked the Goldendoodle Association of North America's website to see their list of recommended breeders?
Sweet.
It is nice to hear someone wants a curly. Most here say they dont want curly.
I have a curly boy who is ecstatic about life. He is happy, very playful, but has that energy.
Curly is more difficult to groom but that works out okay too
