My puppy is 13 weeks old and I can't get him to stop peeing in his crate!! He only does it every now and then but the last two nights he has done it. I feel like I am doing everything I should be doing so I am at a loss now!! He gets his water taken away around 6 pm. I let him out a lot in between before bed. I let him out around 11 pm for the last time. I have moved his divider up so small that He has to really struggle to turn around in his crate! I feel really sorry for him! He does cry to wake me up until after he has already used his crate!! HELP!! I have got to get this to stop!!
Thanks for letting me know! I will have him tested. I know he isn't trying to make me mad. I feel sorry for the little guy! Just trying to figure out what it is!
I didn't mean to come off so strong; I understand you are frustrated. Bailey is 21 weeks old and still wakes up to potty between 5:00-6:00 am, but goes back to sleep om my daughter's bed until 7:15. I would love for him to just sleep until 7:15 and go out then, but for some reason he doesn't. We need to try to ignore him when he barks in the early morning, but no one wants to be kept up, so we take him out and go back to sleep!
I cut water at 8pm and last walk of the evening is at 10 pm or later if we are up. Max didn't hold it through the night until 4 months old. I just kept decreasing the amount of times he went potty overnight from three to once. By four months he was fine with holding his own. He is now ten months old and has never had an accident since.
When we crated Holly for the night, she would whine to wake us up 3-4x during the night to go potty. She would actually go potty when I brought her out, so I couldn't complain. We tried everything, pulling water, walking and exercising her prior to bed time, etc..
I am a light sleeper and was in-tune with Holly's whimpering. I don't know what would have happened if I had not awakened easily to her request for a potty call and taken her out to pee.
However, the first night that we did not crate Holly, she slept the entire night without a potty call.
I am not saying that this is a solution for all Doodles, just recounting what happened in Holly's case. She always just hated the crate.
On the other hand, we have a tile floor in our bedroom (with a soft bed for Holly), so if she did have an accident during the night, the results would not be as serious as if she had wet on a carpet. However, she never had an accident.
Holly made an abrupt change at exactly THREE MONTHS. She changed from being a golden-puddle to a perfectly house trained Goldendoodle. I don't know exactly what prompted the change but, she switched from peeing all the time, everywhere, to a perfect dog who has never peed in an inappropriate place. This was an abrupt change, she didn't just taper off; she just stopped the indiscriminant peeing.
This is what my daughter would love to do (Bailey is her dog and she is currently living at home.) We would try it one night if she would get around to puppy proofing her room, which she can't see to do!! Bailey seems fine in his crate and goes in willingly. I wouldn't say he loves it, but he likes it just fine.
We have a great passed 3 days in a row!! No peeing in cage!! I think what happened is I put him in my daughters room because the reason we got him was to sleep with her and be her dog!! But she is a heavy sleeper and did awake to his stirring. He is now in my room next to my bed. I think once he is out of the crate and potty trained he will be fine sleeping in my daughters room. My other dogs when this happened got very attached to me and wouldn't sleep with anyone else! Doodles seem more easy going and will do what ever, as long as they have someone!
