Charlie has a small abrasion on the side of his face. It is located an inch below the back corner of his mouth. It was probably the result of some wild dog play.
At first the other dogs were licking at it but that has stopped now. I've washed it with an anti-bacterial soap and it seems to heal. THEN, Charlie scratches at the scab with his back foot and we have to start the cycle all over again. This has been going on since early march.
I hate to put a cone on the boy since he can go days without scratching it. Any other ideas?

I've never used this? Does it form a hard layer that he'd want to scratch off?
I'll look for it. At the very least, it should help keep the area clean and maybe it will heal faster. Thanks!
Poor Charlie. Maybe an anti-itch spray would help keep him from scratching it?
I think he scratches at it when it becomes a hard scab. One day it looks and feels like it's healing nicely and then the next, it is a open wound again. I've seen him use his rear foot to scratch it. Would anti-itch spray work with a scab?
It would help keep the skin around it from itching, I think.
Is this generic anti-itch or specific for dogs?
The ones I've used are for dogs; purchased on-line or in the pet supply store. In JD's case, it was to keep him from licking and biting himself during allergy flares. The best one I've found is called Relief spray, ordered on-line but even the ones from the pet supply store have helped to some extent.
Our vet had us use and ointment on a sore under Ned's chin that he scratched. I think it is called Animax. It helped it heal quickly and seemed to relieve the itch. We also had a spray to ease itching, but we didn't seem to need it.
Put a sock on his foot?
If nothing else it will keep the dog busy with the annoying sock for time.
Anyone remember have white gloves on when you had Chickenpox or poison ivy?
