Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
We are thinking of adding another doodle to the pack, a bernedoodle or a sheepadoodle. The only ones I can find are in the amish country. We called them and ask if they had shots and If if we can meet the parents. She said that they are both here for you to meet. We are going up there on the weekend to go see them. I looked up the breeder and I only found that breed of dog. So far I am think that they are not a puppy mill because they are being so open. Now, I know that all amish people who breed dogs don't have puppy mills but I still want t be safe.

I would start by reading this and seeing how your breeder matches up..

Personally, I would not buy a dog from the Amish EVER. If you decide to go see your pup, I would also ask that they take you back to the breeding facility. Just because they are being so open does not mean they aren't a puppy mill. They can trot any two dogs out front and tell you they are the parent dogs. Puppy mills are in the business to sell puppies and the sellers have learned to be very savvy in order to get you to buy their puppies. Please read the link above and give this some more thought. Good luck!
Thanks Laurie! Last weekend we went to go see what an Amish breeder that said that the puppies where "bernedoodles" But it was actually some sort of golden retriever mix! I dont think he knew what he was doing! This was his first litter and probably his last! I think he just needed some extra money.
I have yet to hear of any Amish "breeder" who does health testing on the breeding dogs, and personally have never known of one who wasn't a puppy mill.
I would bet some serious money that if you go to meet the parents, the dogs will be brought out to meet you. You will not see the outbuildings where the dogs and puppies are kept, usually in less than ideal circumstances.
Laurie gave you very good advice.
To research the breeder online, use the telephone numbers, the address, and the personal names, too, not just "Whatchamacallit Kennels". These amish puppy mills are often family affairs, with multiple "breeders" names and locations used.
If they advertise their pups on ad sites like PuppyFind (not to be confused with Petfinder) or Next Day Pets or Greenfield Puppies, they're a puppy mill.
Thanks everybody for being so helpful! I will go look up their number right now and see what comes up. I will still go on the weekend to "interrogate" them, and if they are a puppy mill I be sure to report them. Oh before I forget, Here is where I found them (probably a puppy mill site now that I realize it). I can't tell if it is a fake back round. They are the puppies sitting on the chair in front of the pink flowers.http://www.lancasterpuppies.com/puppy-search/breed/bernadoodle+(ber...
We are not supposed to post the breeder on the main forums or give opinions, but I could give you my opinion privately. You would have to friend me.
Ok! I didn't know that... Thanks for telling me :)
Google "Lancaster Puppies". It's a broker site for Amish puppy mills. Hundreds of horror stories about the breeders there. I would not take a puppy from any of the breeders on that site if they gave it to me free.
I feel like I ran across a couple of Amish puppy mill brokers passing themselves off as rescues in my search for a rescue. Which I have put on hold for a month, it got to be too mentally and emotionally draining.
And here you go. Hilltop Kennel, Verna King.

Google "Verna King puppy" and you get dozens of puppy mill reports going back to 2009 .
Also found ads for the same people breeding many other breeds.
Click on your link and it most definitely takes you to a puppy mill.
