We're hoping someone can help, but anyway.... We have an 8 month old Dude and she is a joy to have however we need to increase the strength on our Invisible Fence brand invisible fence. You see, we had a Jack Russell that passed away after 9 faithful (and active) years.. We replaced 'Libby' with a Dude. Good choice !! Since she is considerably bigger than our 'Libby' we've found that we need to increase the strength of the stimulus. She has run off once and we live on a busy highway. There is no way we could deal with losing her..
My problem is, well, I'm cheap.. I don't want to pay the company the $90.00 to come out for a 20 second turn of a knob or something... There simply HAS to be someone out there that knows how to adjust these things..
Can anyone help me save $90.00 without hurting my dog ??
Sorry, I can't help, but if you don't have the instructions that came with it, perhaps you could go to the company website and see if there is anything to download or, when all else fails, google it. Good luck!
Hopefully those with invisible fences will jump in in the next day or so. If you don't get any answers, I suggest you use the search feature in the main forum and search for "invisible fence" and "e-fence" and you'll find members who've responded to invisible fence questions in the past who you can leave messages for in case they can help. What brand do you have?
Did you already go through the training with the invisible fence with the company trainers? We did ours over a course of 3 weeks, (weekends) and they made the adjustments and it was included in the package.. I know I am pretty frugal myself and I wouldn't want to pay the $90 either but I don't know how to adjust it myself. When we did ours they plugged Cali's collar into a machine like thingy... to turn it up. I am probably not being much help and like Laura says when all else fails google it... Good Luck!!
I have an Innotek Invisible Fence and there is a knob in the box that you adjust. Does yours have that? Can you go online and see if you can find directions? I know the Invisible Fence brand has a Do It Yourself kit, you would think that it would be basically the same and I bet you could find instructions for that.......
On our invisible fence system the "strength" is controlled by a setting on the collar. Ours is adjusted using a small magnet that is tapped on a spot on the collar receiver. This then causes the light to blink indicating the setting. Other models have a button instead of the magnet. If you can read the model number on the receiver unit you can google it.
Our Invisible Fence is called the Invisible Fence from Fort Wayne, IN and a place in Muncie, IN. We've moved once and they moved the box for us and laid new line for a minimum fee. They didn't charge us to set the collars when we got both doodles compared to one dalmatian on the line. First, make sure there is not a lot of hair between the collar posts and your dog's neck. You may have to keep a spot shaved or at least trimmed. If you think there is going to be a problem, I would reset the flags around the perimeter and walk your dog daily around the boundaries. Whenever my dogs see the flags, they know what they mean. Just make sure you have fresh batteries -- we are on a battery plan with Invisible Fence and they send the batteries when they need to be changed. Keep a battery schedule so you don't have to guess if the batteries are good or not. I love Invisible Fence and the dogs do too. Dogs have to have limitations just like your children, and if they go beyond those limitations, they know there are consequences. We can have the fence off (like when the power goes out or when they come home from the groomer and we forget to put their collars on) and they do not go outside the boundaries. The collars don't actually prevent them from going out, it is the training that keeps them in. Invisible Fence is a little pricey at first, but well worth it. My daughter bought a store brand hoping to save money, and her little dog wears 2 collars, and her big dog kept running out and got hit by the school bus. God forbid that should happen to any dog, plus all the kids on the bus saw it as well. I'm no expert, but I would try retraining first, and then if you have any problems, check into Invisible Fence. It is well worth it!!!!! When we camp, my dogs still think they are within the boundaries. Good luck!!
What kind of a system do you have? I have a PetSafe Containment system. If you have that one, it is very easy. There are not wires, just a main box that is plugged into a recepticle and then the collar. You adjust the strength onthe collar. Let me know and if it is PetSafe I can walk you through it.
