In a recent post, I asked DK parents what breeds people often mistake their doodles for. With Duncan, it's almost aslways an Irish Wolfhound (I keep him quite shaggy!). I have developed a little dog-crush on that breed in recent months, so I don't know if it's that or that I volunteer with the PSPCA, but I am very into this local Philadelphia story and think I am in love with Patty :).

I am SO glad that he has been rescued (along with two other dogs) and I pray he finds the loving home he deserves.

I recently started looking at the DRC listings. Big mistake. I've been trying to convince my husband that we need to buy a farm and raise doodle rescues ever since.

No luck so far! :-/
Must have been so beautiful!

That's me too Karen...I

I peruse petfinder.com just about every day to locate Maltese in high kill shelters that need rescuing.  However, I also wander through other breeds that I like such as Irish Wolfhounds and Anatolian Shepherds.  I absolutely love my Holly but, don't think it is unfaithful to her to look at other dogs once in a while (LOL).  I wouldn't trade her for any other dog in the world.  We also absolutely have no room for a second big dog so I don't worry about looking since it will never amount to more than that.

Yes, Richard, I can just see an Irish Wolfhound romping around the backyard with the Maltese fosters. LOL

I fall in love with dogs in books and movies, too. Jerry Lee in the K-9 movies- be still my beating heart! My dream dog!

And anyone who likes Irish Wolfhounds has to read Pam Houston's 10 Things My Dog Taught Me That Made It Possible For Me To Get Married , which is my favorite story in the entire world. It's in the Bark Anthology Dog Is My Co-Pilot , which I'm pretty sure is available for e-readers. You absolutely owe it to yourself to read this, even if you don't particularly love Irish Wolfhounds. I promise you, it will change your life. It did mine. And you will fall in love with the dog, Dante.

PS: THis story has a happy ending, for those who are afraid to read sad dog stories.

I love reading dog stories. This one will go on my list - thank you!

Wow what a recommendation. I will write it down.

Karen, thanks.  I was looking for a good book:)

I have to say, the anthology itself is just okay. Were it not for that one story, I would not recommend it.

Pam Houston expanded Dante's story into a full-length book, Sighthound, and because the story is so amazing, I pre-ordered the book and couldn't wait to read it. I was disappointed. It has its moments, but it's nowhere near as good as that story. I guess you can't improve on perfection.

About this time last year we were heading to FL and we spent the night at a hotel in Valdosta.  When I was heading down the hallway with L&S to go potty we ran into a lady that was carrying a dog bed in from her car and we were talking.  She was traveling with two Irish Wolfhounds and these weren't dog beds, they looked more like Daybed mattresses.  They weren't traveling in a SUV or Van like we were they were traveling with an SUV and a trailer pulled behind it that I think was for the dog beds.  Those dogs were huge ... but they have caught my eye ever sense.
