this woman went away to Africa and while she was away her dogs escaped from their caregivers. They ended up in the shelter in Honolulu. Despite the fact that they were microchipped and the ex-boyfriend who was caring for them was one of the official emergency contacts on the microchip file, the shelter refused to give him the dogs back. One of them, the German Shephard, was adopted out to a family and now this poor woman has no way of knowing where he is. The shelter won't cooperate.
I feel awful. If that was me I would so loose my sanity. Has anyone else heard of this story? Maybe we can write a letter to the shelter or the microchip company or something?? At least, sign the petition...

Sherri - I went to the facebook page and took a look. If true this is awful but at my age I am a bit skeptical. There are usually two sides to every story and this is a bit hard to believe. I'm not saying it isn't true but the whole story of her going to Africa with no affiliated group and her claim of giving land and a home - just doesn't sound right.
LOL, Jane, are we related?
No but we have been around the block a time or two!
Bah humbug. you ladies are jaded!
I think the family may have just gotten bigger ... I was skeptical as well!
This kind of thing does happen, whether or not its true in her case who knows. I met some folks in Cambodia who went the market in a pick up truck three times a week and filled it with food for the kids who live in the dump. They also brought medical supplies and brought along a doctor to fix a kids broken arm and help a young girl with her newborn baby, who was likely delivered right there amidst the garbage. There was no affiliation with any organization, just some people who did it out of the goodness of their hearts because all the aid agencies were too busy writing reports, publishing articles, frequenting the local bars, and driving around in their Lexus' to do anything useful. I can sympathise with her stance against aid agencies.
All this being said, how she could stand to take off for that long and leave her dogs behind is what the real mystery is to me.
This is just not right. She was out doing good, and she comes back to only one fur baby.
The story is a bit odd. Why was one dog returned but one dog adopted out? I can tell you that if this was my dog, I would have lawyered up immediately. It is strange that this has been going on for a year.
the article says she did lawyer up.
There is a slightly similar story here with our local "dog pound/animal shelter". Dog was lost on a Friday, people put up signs everywhere but couldn't find dog (DH and I actually saw the signs and thought we had the dog but it was a different boxer dog). Shelter somehow ended up with the dog. Normally there is a 3 day waiting period for a dog to be adopted out or taken by a rescue organization to give the dogs family time to find it. Somehow in this case when the people went to the shelter on Monday morning to see if the dog had been found, the dog had already been released to a rescue and that rescue had adopted the dog out already. To make a long story short the last I heard, the rescue refused to get the dog back and the original owners were taking them to court. Have not heard what happened. I was most upset about the situation as I felt the dog should have been returned. The animal shelter admitted their mistake in not holding the dog the proper amount of time. Shelter is closed all week-end and has taken measures to change the ruling to 5 OPEN days so it doesn't happen again. However, the dog needs to be with its original family.
I know right. What an injustice! I hope they get their dog back.
