Is this a doodle thing?

I have had people stop me on the side of the road, give me their cell phone numbers and business cards, pull into the dog park without a dog, etc... just to ask about my goldendoodle. Usually people want to know what type of dog Cheddar is and what breeder I got him from. Today's latest inquiry was from a gentleman who wanted to breed his stud, and was disappointed that Cheddar and his brother, who was also with me at the time, were both male.

I owned a german shepherd mix before and never had anyone show interest like this in him. I figured before it was because Cheddar was a puppy, but now at almost 6 months and 50lbs he looks more like an adult dog.

Is this just something to expect from now on? What experiences have you had with this?

I've had people stop their cars to ask me what kind of dog Jack is when we're out walking. Sometimes, they ask if he's a Spinone or some other uncommon breed. I think it's because big blonde shaggy dogs are not a common sight, lol. And because, like all doodles, he's really cute. :) 

Yes, you should expect it to continue.

People have stopped me on the road a time or two to ask what kind of dog Yeti is. I always think its pretty flattering :)

Yes, I've had people pull up on their car beside me and ask questions... Kind of creepy. Lol.

Definitely a doodle thing- we just went to a small town in SC for Thanksgiving and did a little shopping with Teddy in tow. We couldn't get more than 3 steps before someone would ask us about him, smile, want to pet him, etc. I think people just see how joyful they are! It makes my heart happy that he brings joy to so many people :) Get used to it!! Ha!

When Sadie was a puppy we were stopped by someone (sometimes driving by and sometimes walking) almost every time I walked her--it was constant. Just don't let it go to his head! ;-)

Oh yeah!  I've had cars slow up when I walk down the street which feels a little creepy till the window rolls down and either someone asking about or showing me their Doodles!   We've taken Picco to parades and the people in the parades shout out to us.

My husband actually will request we not take Sawyer to say, Home Depot, because it takes us three times as long to get out of the store due to everyone stopping to see Sawyer and ask questions!

Hehe, sound like we are in good company then. I don't mind it, I just didn't expect it to continue once he grew out of his fuzzball puppy phase.

Ha! I just took both of mine to Petco, which they haven't been to in about 5 years and I was stopped down every aisle with people wanting to know what they were, how old they were, how much they weighed, what food I fed them, where did I get them trained.......It went on and on.  Of course the proud mama in me had a good time with it all too. Especially since they are two healthy testaments to what good food, lots of grooming and continual training will do for a doodle. 

The trainer in the store was even training a dog and used my two to help socialize and train the new dog,  for several minutes.  She was surprised to hear they had never been to any formal training.   I've learned all I know right here on DK.

I thought it was just my puppy, Dash!  She is a 5-month old mini Aussiedoodle who is, in my unbiased opinion, the cutest puppy on the planet, ha ha.  We often walk her in a popular tourist area and most times we can't go 10 steps without people approaching, cooing, asking to pet her, asking tons of questions, and yes, even taking photos.  We've had plenty of dogs over the years but nothing has approached the reactions we get with Dash.  I chalk it up to that Doodle Mystique!

We've found the same thing happening everywhere we go!  We're thinking about making a Facebook page just for Tess.  Folks ask us wherever we are, if they know us, 'did you bring Tess'.

Tess is a Service Dog, thus she goes everywhere with us!  We've given posting a sign on her harness that says 'I'm working, DO NOT PET', it's useless, folks will dive onto the floor next to her, to pet her.  She is in danger of being dognapped at times!  Some will ask to pet her, but, most don't!

To Tess's credit, she settles back down immediately after folks leave her alone.

She is 2.6 years old!
