Could be either or it could be both.  Did this just start?  My two have always had hair that came out in the brush.  One was a slight shedder and the other basically non shedding.  Just in case though I would stay on top of her brushing and also go through after brushing with a fine tooth comb just to make sure you are getting all the way to the skin.  Pay particular attention behind the ears, under the arms and under the collar area.  All places that mat very easily and quickly.

yep, do all that..she really doesn't shed/shed..lke my golden use to..so, maybe this is coat change, but seemed early

It does seem early, but she's a toy, and the smaller the dog, the earlier they mature physically. Maybe they go through the coat change earlier, too?

i like the maturation earlier..did not know that!

They complete their skeletal growth much earlier than standards, and they mature sexually earlier, too, so maybe they get their adult coats earlier as well.

Goldie is going through her coat change now too and she is just 7 months old. She is a mini and I'm finding the early maturation thing to be true for her as well. Last vet visit I was told that her skeletal growth was slowing down and that she would be full grown by 8 months so I think you have a puppy coat change on your hands!

OMD, is Derby adorable! How much does Derby weigh?
Thanks/ 8.9 lbs
Ned began his coat change at 6 months. We get hairs and knots of hair out when we brush him.
