Ok - we walk Bodi at least three times a day and he poops each time.  We pick up his poop in a plastic grocery bag, then put that bag inside a kitchen size garbage bag that we hang inside the garage.  We only have trash pick up once a week, so we are having trouble with flies and odor. I can't get the thing mentioned on DK a while back that puts the poop into the sewer line . . it's not an option.  This isn't a problem in cooler weather but with this heat - it stinks!  Any suggestions?

We're in a condo, and we put the poop in a ziplock bag (and I buy the really good ones, because they work best). We put the zipped up bags in a covered trash can. I find that grocery bags don't work at all....you really need to zip them closed to prevent odor, and then put them in a tightly covered container.
We put our poop bags straight into the garbage can they collect each week. Those bins are stored outside and have a top-- do you have such a thing, or do they collect garbage bags without the bin? If that's the case you could consider buying a big garbage can (the heavy duty plastic kind) with a top and put it straight in there.
maybe incorporate kitty litter into the container as well?
We bought a small square container that is larger than a shoebox (found it at WalMart) and is securely closed that we keep outside our garage on the side of the house just for this reason. Very inconspicous. Our garbage can is in the garage, and is picked up 2 x weekely but because of smells we had to come up with a solution. I was looking for a small can (either metal or plastic with a lid that closed securely but could not find it at the time). Anytime we come back from a walk we deposit the poo bags in the box outside the garage and then empty everything into the garbage can on the morning of pickup. Works great for us!
Before the Doggy Doo Drain I had a med size metal trash can that I lined with a green garbage bag. I only used scented poop bags, tied them off good and thew them in. The lid went on thight and the odor didn't seep through the metal can, no flies either. On trash day (once a week) I'd put a clothspin on my noise open the can, grab the green gabage bag, tie it off good and put it out.
I have been thinking of looking dog poop compost for a while so you inspired me to look it up. I found this article but it seems like a lot of work to start. If it works it's worth it. But I am no longer able, if I ever was, to dig a hole bigger than a garage can. So if someone tries this I'd be curious as to how it works. With two dogs there is lots of poop. I don't want to buy bags since that's not ecologically friendly so I use the newspaper bags and whatever else is handy. But in this weather sometimes honeysuckle is not the only perfume in the air. I leave the bags in an uncovered can so that there's a chance for the smell to dissipate a bit.
We have a small metal trash can that has a lid that seals tight. We line it with a garbage bag and keep it outside right by the 'poop' area. We sprinkle baking soda in it and also spray it with bug repellent. We got the trash can at the local feed store. I think it is usually used to store grain????
My daughter bought a Rubber Maid plastic tub with a snap on lid at Home Depot. She lines it with the lawn/leaf trash bag and picks up the poops with the poop bags, ties them and puts them in the tub and snaps the lid down. Hold your breath when you open it though. Then on trash day she holds her breath and opens it, ties up the lawn/leaf bag and throws it into the trash. She keeps the tub in the furthest back corner of her yard away from the house. When I have been there I haven't seen any flies. You might want to give this a try. Good luck! PS Sounds like Susan has the same idea. So do the others!
Thank you for all of your wonderful ideas!! I will be taking parts of ideas from all of you . . . . um . . .except the poop compost! lol
I wonder if those "diaper genies" they used to sell when my boys were little would work. You can probably bag the poop, then deposit it in the "Diaper Genie" and maybe that will hold out on the smell. It will probably stink real bad when you empty it, but it does not smell until then. Who knows maybe now they are new and improved. (It's been at least 9 years since I've needed one). Help me out new moms... do they still have such a thing? I'll go look on Babies R Us site and see if I can find it...
FOUND IT: The Diaper Genie link... http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3092075

No odor

The diapers only touch film, not the pail, so there is no messy residue left behind. The Double-Lock design and five-layer film seals odor into the pail and out of your nursery. The Diaper Genie II Elite Advanced Disposal System has Ultra-Fresh Antimicrobial Protection built into the plastic to inhibit odor-causing bacteria.

Foot pedal

The foot pedal allows for easy, hands-free disposal. The taller ergonomic design means it's easier for you to hold your child and dispose of a diaper at the same time. Just step, drop and go. The Diaper Genie II Elite Advanced Disposal System takes care of the rest.

Easy cleanup

The internal childproof cutter makes emptying the pail a breeze. Just cut and seal and the diapers are ready for disposal. To start a new bag, just tie a knot and you're ready for more diaper changes.

Added convenience

This easy-to-use pail holds more than 30 small diapers before needing to be emptied. And assembly is literally a snap: the pail snaps together in just one step.
Thanks Shelly
I actually thought about this but worried about the cost. I'm sure the system is out there at garage sales . .. . if I was so motivated!! not! I'm going with a separate trash can with a lid and a clothespin for my nose. Being a teacher I don't usually want summer to end - but with this stink and the flies I'm ready for fall!!
