Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

There seems to be a huge number of Doodles in Shelters all over the county. The DRC needs volunteers for fostering and transporting in order to get them out. We can't get them out of the shelter if there is no where for them to go!

Please consider opening your home and heart to a Doodle in need! The only expenses that are not covered by the DRC is food.

We really need foster homes immediately Texas, Idaho and Virginia all over Country!!

If anyone has any questions, please email me at adriannedrc@aol.com

I would appreciate if our current foster volunteers would write about your experiences so those who may be considering it will hear first hand from you so they can make an informed decision.

Thank you!!!!!!

Adrianne

Anytime there is a need in WI I hope I can help
As a foster mom for the DRC I can without hesitation say that it has been one of the most rewarding things that I have done in my lifetime. We have so far fostered 2 male Labradoodles. The 1st one was a 6 month old, owner surrender, and the second one was 1 year old removed from the local kill shelter. I don't think that there was a single member of my family that thought that I would be able to give either of them up when the time came, and I know that is a big barrier for most people. Carrie Underwood has a song titled "My Temporary Home". This is how I approached fostering. This was their Temporary Home. We were just a stop on the way to where they were going. I won't tell you that Fostering was easy, but I will say that the good far out weighed the bad. I'm not going to detail the particular situations that we faced because every foster is different based on where they come from and what they have been through and also what type environment you are bringing them into. If you have any specific questions I will be happy to give you an honest answer about my experiences, but my experience won't be yours. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about them and they will always hold a special place in my heart but I know that we were there when they needed us, and that they are very happy in their new homes and that is how it is supposed to be!

Jett was such a lap dog, but when he first arrived he wouldn't get up on the furniture ... he always kept his back feet on the floor but you could tell he wanted to get all the way up!

This picture was the night before he left for his new home and he was by then more than happy to come all the way up on the furniture. He was such a loving little fellow.

This is Topper. He was our first foster. He loved toys. He would have them spread out all over the house. He would have the best time just playing all by himself! He had the cutest tail in the whole world.

His new Daddy drove all the way from New Jersey to Ohio to pick him up. When it was time to leave Topper just jumped right in the car like he knew this was the thing to do. When they pulled out of the driveway he was standing between the 2 front seats giving his new daddy kisses. That made the first departure that much easier.

A perfect explanation of the fostering experience from a perfect foster mom!
Thank you for you wisdom! You're right - each dog is so different BUT what they all have in common is that they all just want and need love, kindess and security.
What makes it 'easy' to let them go to their forever home is that I NEVER call them 'my doodle', they are ALWAYS referred to 'my foster'.

To get updates and see pictures from the new family is just fantastic.

This was story posted on my FB page about Zeke, a HUGE doodle I pulled from a shelter in Naples, FL and was fostered by Barbara & Lee and Lexi. Elizabeth is Zeke's Mom.

From Elizabeth: I'm sorry I haven't been talking a lot lately! But I wanted to take this time to thank you for doing what you do! Zeke really is a wonderful addition to our family, I did hit a rough patch (dog+baby diapers= HUGE OVERWHELMING MESS) But Dr. Dunn (vet) is wonderful and Zeke is far far away from those now lol!!
We take him to Home Depot and he's my friend when my husband works late, when my computer is done being fixed I will have to post the cutest video!! My son Mel loves Zeke sooo much, he just laughs and laughs out of excitment when he see's Zeke!!

From Lee: lol, What did Zeke do with the baby diapers....did he get into trouble?
After fodstering Zeke and missing him so much we adopted Billabong (Billy). Zeke convinced us one Doodle just was not enough. He was right, we are loving two Doodles!

From Elizabeth He ate the diapers, lol, we walked out the door for 10 minutes, and when we came back in umm he had consumed all the diapers in the diaper genie!!! YUCK!! But he's fine and we just don't let him into certain rooms if we leave!! Other than that, he's wonderful!!!!! Thank you for taking such good care of him :)

where in Virginia, Adrianne? Remember, I went to school in Virginia, and am very active in alumni affairs, and I have lots of friends in DC.
I have sent in my application to foster in northern VA, please let me know if I am approved and when I can get started?
I could potentially in Texas, but my apartment has a weight limit of 35lbs. So just minis probably. Is there still a need with that taken in to consideration?
Unfortunately there is always a need - maybe younger ones that haven't hit their height!
If you havent will you please email me a foster application to

Send me the Foster Application! Especially now with the BP issue, lots of dogs are being placed in shelters since their families no longer have much of an income.
