Jack won't eat or drink!

Jack is home with me and my dad and step mom....we have been home together for a few days and he has been fine....eating great, playing and going for walks with my step mom. Yesterday he had his heart guard chew....and he ate extra food ....some salmon, some egg...(small bites) and all his regular food.


Today he is. It himself.....he ate NOTHING...this boy loves cheese...he walked away from it..wouldn't eat an egg...unheard of....no salmon...no treats nothing...not even a sip of water.....

He doesn't have diarrhea ..he is not throwing up. His poop is reported by my step mom as normal. His breathing is non labored.....but he is sleeping deeply but wakes up when I call his name. I can't find any tender spots on his body...his gums are a little tacky.

He only weighs 16 -17 pounds so he doesn't have much reserve.....you know me I am worried....I can't help it I love him so much.

My dad and step mom are here....not really dog people but my step mom is good with Jack.....I am unable to leave house.....so I would have to send Jack to the ER with my dad and step mom which he doesn't know that well..

Can anyone tell me how long he can go without any fluid? Should I try to force him via syringe some chicken broth or water....or just let him be?

Try not to worry too much Jenn.  Maybe the medication put him off his food for the day.  Try him with some ice chips - hand feed them to him.  Let us know how it goes.

Is Jack doing better today?  Sometimes Bodi does this - doesn't eat at least and I just have to wait it out!! Let us know how Jack is doing!

I would be more worried about hydration than the food. I hope he starts feeling better and eating and drinking again soon.

Thanks for the replies, I ended up making him take a a total of 30 mls of Chicken Broth Via Syringe.   Today he went to his water bowl to take a sip and walked away.

If he doesn't take fluids in by mid afternoon I am going to have to have my dad bring him in.  It is just that I can't go and I want to avoid drama/trauma if I can..   When he was outside he was barking at the neighbors dog .

He spent all day and just until now in the ER......he is really sick...was very dehydrated...lost three pounds in one week...he is down to 14 pounds..... They gave him fluids and emergency steroids none helped.....his blood pressure is 170 which is super high for him because his heart rate was only 87. His urine has +4 protein in it. Chest and belly x rays didn't show obstruction....

He has to be back there at 7 am. They wanted to admit but that place is crazy and the thought of him being in a crate with screaming barking dogs makes me sick. We are close enough tomthe ER that we can get him back fast....


He is like a lump....he perks up for a few minutes and then is out cold...... Liver and kidney levels are normal so is pancreatic enzyme levels.......he seems tender to the touch in his belly..he grunts on palpating but x ray didn't show anything....... And the one minute I went to the bathroom .....they gave him some science diet which he ate a few mouthfuls of.

Somethjg. Is wrong..... We just don't know what and I am so sad just watching him be so,listless ....

This must be the scariest thing. Follow your gut instincts and don't give up on finding the correct diagnosis. Good luck and you are in my thoughts. Please keep us updated...
