I am so shook up I can barely type. We were out on our a.m. walk when suddenly this dog got out of his yard and attacked JD. I had to drop his leash, he was trapped. JD put up a fight but he's handicapped by his ruptured disc, and he fell. The other dog was over him down on the ground, I was screaming and trying to kick the other dog, I don't even know exactly what happened, my brain just shut down and it's a blur, it all happened so fast, but the dog was off of him by the time the owners came out. I was mostly worried about JD's back and didn't even know he was bitten until we got home. He has a puncture wound with a tear under his eye (thank God he missed the eye itself) and a big scrape across the top of his head. We're just back from the ER. They cleaned it and gave me pain meds and antibiotics...just what he needs with his IBD. I may not give him the pain meds, but I have to give him the amoxicillin, which is certain to upset his stomach. And I have to apply warm compresses to the wound under his eye several times a day for a few days so it doesn't scab up too fast. I am so upset I'm shaking. That dog got out of that yard so fast and so easily, they may as well not even have had a fence.
Going to pick up his amoxicillin now. Poor JD.

Oh, poor JD!!! I'm so sorry this happened to him. What did the owners have to say? I hope they have at least offered to pay his medical bills! Sending big hugs and prayers to Jd and to you!
Thanks, Lori. I hope so, too. With his vet bills so high from the usual stuff, I really didn't need another $170 today.
I would politely take the ER bill to the owner..... That's a lot of added expense.
OMG!! That is horrible!!! Thank God, JD is kind of OK.... and you did not get attacked!! >:-( !!!
It is bad that dog can actually bite and puncture other's skin... That means that he/she has no inhabitation!!! ( I know that dogs may fight and bite, but do not actually "bite", right?)
Was the owner apologetic? Not that it really matters since it is clear that he/she is not responsible for having a gate / fence that is not doing its job!! They better wish that they have decent homeowner's insurance that will cover all of JD's medical expense!!
I hope you and JD recover quickly from this horrible trauma!! Prayers~
Thanks, Kyoko.
There have been several occasions where a dog got out of a yard and ran at us, and there was all the usual scary posturing, teeth baring and snarling on both sides, but never an actual bite.
OH NO! I am so sorry. Karen, we used a Dreft soak. I swear by that now. My mother, also had to use a Dreft soak ( dabbing the incision with a wash cloth~ rinse with water, wash cloth)
I am very sorry. We seem to get attacked on a regular basis now. I'm completely sick of it.
What did the owners say? I hope they are offering some financial support
Thanks Joanne. I'm waiting to see if the owners offer to do anything.
Poor JD! I am so sorry you and he had this happen. Sending lots of paws-ative energy your way.
Thanks Nina!
OH NO!! I sure hope Handsome Jack makes a full recovery without any trouble with his stomach or back. I hate it when people with aggressive dogs don't keep them under control and safely on their own property. Heal up fast Jackdoodle!
Thanks, Charlotte.
