Just A Quick Introduction

Hello one and all!

I've been reading this site intensely for the past few weeks in preparation for the newest addition to our family. The data gathered has been extremely helpful as we move forward with buying our first Labradoodle and our first dog in many years.

We have been living the life of "empty nesters" and honestly really enjoy the fact that we have no kids or pets to tie us down. But we also miss coming home from a bad day at work to a child or dog to greet us. So we spent a considerable amount of time discussing if we wanted to make this step. 

Once we committed the conversation quickly turned to what kind of dog did we want. Our first visit was to several Humane Society shelters. Sadly most all of the dogs we seen were not what we were looking for. We checked several rescue groups as well. We felt so bad for all those poor dogs, and ended up making contributions to help them, but we had to stick to out guns about finding the right fit for our family and our situation.

After weighing the pros and cons of all the breeds, we decided on a Labradoodle. We visited several breeders and did as much homework as we could. So next week we bring home our 10 week old black Labradoodle.

Now we have to work on a name and getting the house puppy proof! 

I look forward to gleaning more knowledge from all the members here!

Thanks! We kinda feel overwhelmed right now, We had nothing dog related, so we are in intense shopping mode. We forgot the added costs of all this :)

Welcome and Congratulations!!!    Such an exciting time….waiting for your new addition.   We were empty nesters too, when we decided to get Banjo.    I don't think a day goes by that one of us, or both don't comment on what a great addition he has been to our little family.      Post photos of your new baby when you can!

We were empty nesters, too.  My son tells us all the time that it was a great decision.  Yes, the expenses are often hidden-but the emotional payback is worth it!  Good luck, and keep us posted- pictures too!

How exciting! We got Picco after a few years of doglessness. I didn't have to buy anything except the food, but had to scamper around the crawlspace looking for all my dog stuff. And what it takes to care for a puppy!

WhoooHoooo! How exciting! Welcome to DK....home of a Doodle Lovers! You sound very much like my husband and I...empty nesters and could not live without a dog. We lost our senior Golden and the plan was always: once he was gone...it was time to travel. Nope....we just couldn't do it! Sooooo thankful for our little one! Pretty positive you will never regret your decision!
We WILL need pics of your newbie! It's law around here! ;)
