Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I had a standard F1 goldendoodle name Gizmo. He was super social, I swear he tried to make me laugh. Loved to watch TV (especially Harry Potter) and was always down to cuddle.
Gizmo passed away suddenly of kidney failure two months ago at 6.5 years old. I got him from the Humane Society at 6 months and I don't regret that even a little, but based on what my vet said I think he had genetically bad kidneys. He was an owner surrender and the previous owners got him at a pet store:(
Anyway, I'm getting a puppy in August and in the mean time I'm obsessing researching puppy training. I stumbled across this site and it's filling my doodle withdrawal a little.

Hi Brandy ~ I am so sorry to hear you lost your sweet boy! Just heartbreaking. When you get a chance be sure check out the groups section on the main page and join as many as you like. There is a terrific training group that will help when you choose to get a new companion. Welcome to Doodle Kisses!
Welcome to Doodle Kisses. I'm so sorry about Gizmo, but excited that you'll be soon getting a new Doodle puppy.
Hi Brandy--I'm so sorry for your loss. Congrats on your new puppy! I think you'll find Doodle Kisses extremely helpful--welcome!
I'm sorry for your loss Brandy. Glas you've found Doodle Kisses. You'll love looking through the various posts and photos while awaiting your new baby!
So sorry about your boy--he sounds very special---is anyone think to check for Lyme or other tick borne diseases when his kidneys shut down? That is a common complication of the late stages of the disease if it goes undetected.
I am glad you are getting a new pup--make sure you share pics and welcome!
Wow - no I hadn't heard anything about Lyme disease and kidney failure. The genetic kidney failure was my vet's guess, but neither poodle nor golden retrievers are high risk there, but after spending an hour looking up Lyme disease (can I blame you for getting sucked down the google rabbit hole?) I found out Golden Retrievers are more likely to have kidney issues with Lyme Disease.
I'll probably ask my vet if he was tested annually for Lyme disease.
So sorry to hear about Gizmo! That's always tough, but glad that you have decided to get a new companion! I, too, discovered Doodle Kisses after the death of my goldendoodle Zak and waiting for my Myla to be born - I learned so much on this site even though I had previously owned a doodle! I spent hours reading the posts and of course getting puppy picture fixes :) Don't forget to join the different groups - "Puppy Madness" is a great one while waiting and of course the training group and the grooming group - then there are a ton of other groups, based on your interests! Welcome to DK and I hope the time between now and August goes by quickly!
Welcome Brandy. I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to your Gizmo. Excited to see and hear about your new little one.
Welcome to DoodleKisses. Your introduction is not depressing at all. We all have had experiences that are rather trying with our animals and you just need to remember that the life span of a dog is so much shorter than that of people. My ALD loves to watch TV also and loves to chase horses running on the TV.
Where are you getting your new puppy? Training is a definite plus with any pet. Enjoy DK and I hope you find the information you are looking for.
Hi Brandy, I am also a dog love and book lover. I am very sorry about Gizmo, but glad to see that you are getting a new pup. I can see what a love Gizmo was from your picture. I have puppy fever badly right now so will enjoy your research vicariously.
