Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Can anyone tell me the difference between these two dogs if you don't know their parents? Any different traits??? Lynette

I can sort of guess pretty well based on coat -- but only in the first generation. After that...it's pretty hard to tell or guess just by personality or appearance because they are not a SET type being mixes and not all bred the same way.
I would say that F1 goldendoodles are usually more "fluffy" (fur tends to stick out more) whereas F1 labradoodles are usually more "shaggy" (their fur drapes closer to their body). Even Luna with her mostly straight hair has a "fluffy" look about her.
Any generation after F1 though... can't really tell!
Since golden retrievers have much softer fur than labradors, goldendoodles tend to be softer and fluffier whereas labradoodles have slightly coarser fur -- but again this is mainly for the F1 (or first generation) doodles.
Thanks , Lynette
The dog in the person's lap is a Goldendoodle and the other one is a Labradoodle of some measure of fame on DK. (At least I believe I recognize his chair as it has been in many blog posts) ;o) Couldn't you just hug them both?!
I agree with Bonnie. Cute dogs.
BG, Great minds think alike. I was going to post twin pictures of our dogs too!!
Laurie, you should've bought Vern a bigger chair for xmas. :)
LOL
Sasha is a goldendoodle her dad is a Standard Poodle and Mom is a goldendoodle. Oliver is a labradoodle, Mom is a labradoodle and his Dad is a Standard poodle. I guess tha makes them both FB2's - not too sure on that. Both my doodles are amazing, the differences I can tell are just gender specific. Sasha is very poodle like but has the markings of a golden. Oliver is just solid black and his hair is very curly is spots and very wavy in other spots. I think when you mix breeds you can come up with lots of differences. Oliver's litter mates were a mix of very curly, curly and straight.
They would be F1b's... the b is for Backcross.
