Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We just adopted a wonderful 2year old choc lab mix. The prior owner ( per the shelter) claims her dad was poodle. She has a shaggy beard more like a terrier Her coat is wavy on the ridge. I did not think poodles had beards, but have now read they do. I do not see pics that look much like her so far on this site.
So, I am wondering if she is going to need groomed? I have been brushing her and she does not seem to be shedding much. I think some whispy hairs are getting longer. The end if her tail too. I guess time will tell! But was reaching out to see if there are others that have dogs with a very mixed coat Abe if they need trimmed.
Thanks

She could be an F1 that is favouring the lab genes. She looks like she has standard poodle long legs!! Her coat doesn't look like one that will need to be clipped. If she is two she will have her adult coat by now, and she shouldn't change much over time. Just brush and comb her regularly :)

If you look in the group "Where's the Poodle in my Doodle" within this site, you might see some other doodles that are less poodly!!
Will do! Thanks

She could be a doodle! I do know some F1's that do not need to be groomed--(see pic) their hair just gets to a certain length and breaks off at the ends or sheds out--the fact that she does not shed much is a bit confusing--so as you said, time will tell!

She has a lab look about her so perhaps she is a lab/poodle mix.  Is she shaved right now or is her coat as long as it gets? Jolene's Sassy is just that color, she doesn't shed and doesn't need much grooming.  This is a picture of Sassy with a short body cut that I found on her page, but her face is still longer. But definitely check out the Where is the Poodle in my Doodle group. http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/wheresthepoodleinmydoodle

I am not sure if she was shaved early in the summer or not. Her hair is not that wavy or long right now. Her lower legs look more like a short hair lab. Her ears are very smooth too. I do not think she will be needing a full cut, but maybe a trim up now and then.

My Meg is an F1 that came out on the labby side.  Meg has a beard and some longer hair around her eyes.  She has that distinctive wave along her back (I love it) and two different coats...a fur one that sheds like crazy mixed with some long hair but not enogh to give her the doodle coat.  We cut her back to more of the look you have to help on the clean up detail from the hair. She is a bit younger and not cut back I this picture.

Yes! She looks a lot like Kiera! Is she shedding much now? I do not think it is really shedding season, but not sure. If the shedding remains this light always, I will be ecstatic!
Thank you!

Meg sheds every...single...day!  All seasons are her season.  If it is ever an Olympic sport the rest of you can just give up, she will drop hairs all the way.  It is frustrating but we just keep the Roomba busy as well as the hand held vac.  We no longer wear dark clothes, people that come to visit are warned to wear kahki or soft demin, otherwise we tape roll them while they are here.  I think if yours is not shedding now you really do not have a shedding issue.

We have friends who had a very special chocolate lab named Nestle, and she was one of the most wonderful dogs I have ever known. Your girl is beautiful and her coloring reminds me of sweet Nestle. My guess is that if she is not shedding now at the age of two, she probably won't be a shedder, and thus, won't need much grooming in addition to regular brushing and an occasional shower. Her legs look longer than those of a lab -- more like a poodle, so the shelter's belief makes sense that her father is a poodle. Have you named your new maybe-doodle yet? (This picture is of your girl, and not of Nestle, so that nobody is confused.)

She came to us with all the records/ paperwork having her as Kiera, so we kept it! Took me a bit to get used to it, but am finally liking it.
