She has a lab look about her so perhaps she is a lab/poodle mix. Is she shaved right now or is her coat as long as it gets? Jolene's Sassy is just that color, she doesn't shed and doesn't need much grooming. This is a picture of Sassy with a short body cut that I found on her page, but her face is still longer. But definitely check out the Where is the Poodle in my Doodle group. http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/wheresthepoodleinmydoodle
My Meg is an F1 that came out on the labby side. Meg has a beard and some longer hair around her eyes. She has that distinctive wave along her back (I love it) and two different coats...a fur one that sheds like crazy mixed with some long hair but not enogh to give her the doodle coat. We cut her back to more of the look you have to help on the clean up detail from the hair. She is a bit younger and not cut back I this picture.
Meg sheds every...single...day! All seasons are her season. If it is ever an Olympic sport the rest of you can just give up, she will drop hairs all the way. It is frustrating but we just keep the Roomba busy as well as the hand held vac. We no longer wear dark clothes, people that come to visit are warned to wear kahki or soft demin, otherwise we tape roll them while they are here. I think if yours is not shedding now you really do not have a shedding issue.
We have friends who had a very special chocolate lab named Nestle, and she was one of the most wonderful dogs I have ever known. Your girl is beautiful and her coloring reminds me of sweet Nestle. My guess is that if she is not shedding now at the age of two, she probably won't be a shedder, and thus, won't need much grooming in addition to regular brushing and an occasional shower. Her legs look longer than those of a lab -- more like a poodle, so the shelter's belief makes sense that her father is a poodle. Have you named your new maybe-doodle yet? (This picture is of your girl, and not of Nestle, so that nobody is confused.)
