Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I just read that some labradoodles may be in a shelter near Kamloops British Columbia. I don't know any deatils. I just noticed a thread on a breeder forum. If anyone is looking for a pet there may be dogs looking for a home.
"Several quality breeding Australian labradoodles have been put in this facility. Looks like they were from Avonlee labradoodles. I do not know why they are there and don't know if this is a kill shelter or not...Can anyone help and find out who is in Canada?

Sorry to enter this thread so late. I did not notice it at the time.
I got two great dogs from Ann Bankert several years ago. They are brother and sister and have been wonderful--healthy, happy, great temperament, all the things that Doodles are known for. We visited her kennel to pick up the dogs. She was proud of the place and showed us around. It was neat and clean--so was her house ( a mobile home). A number of dogs were running around outside in her large grassy fenced lot; they seemed healthy and happy. There was one litter of pups on the premises (our dogs were adults when we got them). Our dogs were in very good condition. It was obvious that Ann cared about the dogs (she cried when we left with our dogs). She gave us very detailed and careful instructions for their healthcare, feeding and grooming. I have looked at the Avonlee web site occasionally since then. I noticed that Ann has not had that many litters for sale. In fact, I was surprised at the number of adults she had, and some dogs that I know were old enough to have had several litters, only had one. I thought she was not pursuing the business side of things very aggressively--she loved to write emails and posts, so I thought maybe she was partially retired from breeding (she is not a young woman).
So, I am left wondering how she could have lost her dogs to the pound. I am trying to think what could happen to someone for that to happen. None of the things I can think of are very good--in fact they are all terrible and hard.
I am sorry to see the nasty tone of several of these messages. There are lots of people who have had good experiences with Ann. I think if I imagine Ann as myself, loving dogs, and then think of what happened from that point of view, I realize that she has had some pretty bad recurring problems (knowing that only a pretty terrible problem would have made me lose my dogs to the pound). So I am sorry.
Hording is one thing a sickness. This is puppy milling straight up. Sick dogs, lots of dogs, tons of puppies sold lots of money made. She won't give her home address out on her website doesn't even give her name. Just general area of where she is located. There are lots of these type of breeders out there and unless the SPCA gets involved, nobody knows about it.
In response to this situation, I am participating in the annual BC SPCA Paws for a Cause walk on September 9th. My aim is to raise $3000. This amount reflects the SPCA's adoption fee of $300 a dog - times 10. The number of dogs I counted, out of Avonlee Labradoodles. If any DK members reading this would like to show their thanks to the BC SPCA in helping the dogs concerned, please consider helping raise cash for them by sponsoring me. So far I have raised over $300, but I am a long way off my target. Paws for a Cause is an amazing event, and if you would like to view all the exciting details, please follow these instructions:
If anyone in the Vancouver area, would like to walk with me on September 9th, I would be honored.
Very many thanks for reading this, and bless anyone who donates.
Molly is the latest dog out of Avonlee. She is at Burnaby Shelter. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to attach the link so you can see her picture. However, you can visit the BC SPCA site, and find her. Also, please read my discussion point in this forum about my participation in the BC SPCA's Pause for a Cause Walk (Sep. 9th) - inspired by Molly, and all the dogs - exactly like mine - coming out of Avonlee
Sadly, many labradoodle breeders are supporting Ann and stating that they would work with her again. Yesterday, someone posted about these dogs in the doodle breeders forum, and was blasted by the breeders, who all denied the conditions of the dogs, expressed sympathy for and defended Ann and stated that they would work with her again. I wonder where the sympathy is for the dogs. Today, the entire post is gone. You can still see parts of it on Google, though:
I read that. Interesting that it is gone.
No these were actual breeders on that site who defended Ann. I don't know the truth but the whole thing raises many questions. I am not defending Ann nor condemning her at this point.
My feeling is that regardless of what happened, or what kind of conditions existed, there is no question that many Avonlee Labradoodles ended up in a shelter in poor condition, and this is not the first time this has happened. Therefore, regardless of what Ann did or did not do, or what tragedies may have befallen her (again), it would be not be in the best interests of any dog to be placed in her care any time soon, and I would have a very poor opinion of any breeder who did so.
I certainly agree with that. I hope some of the breeders have read our input : )
I too saw Cindy's discussion on the the breeder's forum, and read the responses. I have to say that, much as I appreciate Cindy's concern for the dogs, and her desire to expose the suggested bad practices of a particular breeder, I think the approach was not the most effective.
Perhaps it would be better for her to gather and formalize any evidence she has, and present it to the SPCA, who then might or might not, have the powers to take action.
I know Ann and I know what she is about, what she has always been about. Making money is the name of the game for Ann. She has to live and this is how she has decided to do it. Breeding lots of dogs, making thousands of dollars where she couldn't make more than 800.00 for a registered poodle, she can make 2500.00+ for a puppy that you don't know who the father is, not registered and she doesn't have to spend the money that she does with the poodles. Of course she is going to keep doing it if people think she is honest. She is not, never has been. I know this lady. Feel sorry for her, go ahead get sucked in. I am not going to try to convince you. If you fall for her BS, then you deserve all the heart ache you get. I feel sorry for the dogs, they do not deserve all this s***. She was a poor breeder when she got all her poodles taken away while telling every one how bad off she was and it was someone else s fault. She is a piece of work now doing the same thing, Everyone has struggles in their lives and there is no one to blame but themselves and the decisions they made. She is nobody special but she will do the same again and change her name kennel name etc... if she can get away with it. Go ahead and stick up for her but think of all the dogs that have had to die alone in her kennel or be put down by the SPCA or the Vet because they were too sick to recover. A vet turned her in the first time she lost her dogs.
Not to worry.
