Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everybody,
I just got my golden doodle on Sat her name is Jersey and she is 8 weeks old. Everything is going awesome except she hates her leash. She pulls and bites it whenever it is on and she will not go potty unless we take it off first. I know she just needs to get used to it and I have tried to leave it on her around the house but she just bites and chews it. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get her used to it? Her collar is just a regular collar that has a snap buckle do you think I should change it to a trainer collar?

Sadie agrees. Delicious!
The more you use the leash, the sooner she will get used to it. We got our doodle and immediately went in our RV where most potty walks were on-leash. He did fine then. He learned to heel ect. on-leash over the winter. When summer came this year he wouldn't go potty when his leash was on - like he hadn't ever done this before???? I just kept working on it and he re-learned, however he much prefers to be off-leash for potty time.
Our doodles like to chew and mouth as they are a mix of retrievers. Read up on any biting and puppy nipping info you can you will need to know this VERY SOON. Start with chew toys and tug tugs. offer the chew toy or tug tug it will likely take the attention of the leash so as to let go. Praise or reward when she drops the leash. Add commands with each action.
ex drop it
entice with chew toy
drops leash to get chew toy
say good girl, give chew toy

Use a treat instead of chew toy if she doesn't get distracted by the toy.
