Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I believe that here at DoodleKisses most of us support responsible breeding and rescue.  There have been posts both here and other forums by people not adhering to responsible breeding standards asking questions or advising of a litter.  They then get offended when they are questioned or told that there are those of us that are offended by their actions.

Please let us all take a stand to only to support responsible breeding and rescue!!!!

April, I disagree. I didn't find Lynn's comments to be passive-aggressive. I think her statement was direct and to the point.
I'm such a rescue person that I tend to tune out anything about litters or breeders, but I fully agree with supporting only responsible, accredited breeders (if there's an accredidation process - I don't really know. I also think I spelled accredidation wrong) while encouraging rescue as priority avenue to explore. I agree with Lynne - there are so many amazing doodles (and other wonderful dogs) out there who need homes. My general stance is that if you feel like you HAVE to have a dog from a breeder, do your homework and get the best...and then rescue a dog at the same time. You get a built-in BFF for your newly bought dog and great karma to boot!
I totally agree with you.
I loathe reading a new members 'bio' where they state they got their doodle because they are hypoallergenic and non-shedders. With those statements I can only believe that the breeder sold them a doodle and a bunch of poop. I pray that if their doodles starts to shed that they don't wind up in a shelter or rescue needing to be rehomed because they didn't do their research and were lied to. That is not responsible breeder practices.
There are responsible breeders here in DK and do share their knowledge and will point blank state that no breed is hypoallergenic and that some may have a less chance of shedding and therefore the chances of being allergic to them is less.
I wish more were like those! You know who you are and I thank you!
People need to be educated. Let's pretend for a minute that doodles are a breed just for my following statements. I think that many of us get our dogs without understanding the difference between a BYB, hobby breeder, etc. We have heard the words 'puppy mill' and condemn them. However we don't realize how deceitful puppy mills can be to sell their pets and many of us end up with puppy mill dogs or dogs from careless breeding. Money can be an issue when purchasing a dog, but many of us don't know where the line might be between shopping around and getting a poorly bred dog. I know many of you in rescue feel that people should only get rescued dogs, and in theory I agree. However, there are definite and valid reasons why one would want a dog from a reputable breeder as opposed to a rescued dog. I think there are some BYB who join dk and truly are ignorant and naive about what they are doing. They can be taught, prospective dog buyers can be taught. The people who join who are "evil" need to be banned, but we need to attempt to educate before we unilaterally condemn. You get more flies with honey than vinegar and polarizing people or totally condemning them for their choices is not really enlightening them. Just because someone doesn't believe as you do does not necessarily make them wrong - it might if they don't think doodles are the BEST! LOL
Well said Nancy & Ned!
Nancy, I think you sumed up everyones thoughts perfectly. Everyone has their reasons for where and how they got their doodles.
It sometimes takes a teacher to appreciate the value of teaching. Brava Nancy!
There is a breeders group here that you can direct any "would-be-BYBs" to and the breeders there can advise them on the reality of breeding and how much time and money it will cost them to do it right & responsibly.
Thanks, Todd! I often wish the legitimate breeders here would address these people, but I hadn't thought of sending them to you! Duh!
The only problem is that this is what the breeders group says:

For Breeders Only. We support responsible breeding, by requesting an invitation, you acknowledge that you promote responsible breeding by (among other things) testing your stock and supporting your puppy families with warranties and encouragement.

So these breeders may not be eligible to join
Good point. They definitely would not be eligible to join.
Back to the drawing board. :(
Well if someone shows sincere desire to learn and they actually have a breeding dog and are able to articulate their concrete plans...we usually let them in to the group so they CAN learn.
